A case of mumps was reported in Alaska for the first time since 1995, according to Alaska health officials.
On July 11, a 50-year-old woman reported a headache, jaw pain and trismus, which can involve muscle spasms or locking of the jaw. She tested positive for the viral illness. According to an Alaska Section of Epidemiology bulletin, the woman is believed to have contracted mumps when she was in Japan for most of June. She had stayed with a host family who said their daughter had tested positive for mumps in late-June...
