Outbreak of chickenpox reported in Lee County

Lee County has 41 confirmed cases of chickenpox in children since February ? leading the Lee County Health Department to issue an outbreak warning...

...In a typical year, the county sees approximately 15 cases of chickenpox. In 2008 there were 12 cases; 15 in 2009.

Joe Donzelli, spokesman for the Lee County School District, said school nurses began to see an unusual number of chickenpox cases in February, which they reported to the county health department.

James-Mesloh said the alarming spike in cases this year is compelling the county health department to advise parents to watch for symptoms and have their children vaccinated ? possibly for a second time...

Chickenpox Springs Up In Nassau County
24 Cases Reported In County; 9 Children At Elementary School Among Them

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- The Nassau County Health Department said nine children have gotten chickenpox at Emma Love Hardee Elementary school.

Health officials said there are currently 24 reported cases across the county, and a majority of the patients are children.

Chickenpox is a virus that causes a blister-like rash, itching and fever.

In Nassau County, the number of confirmed cases being reported is up 200 percent compared to last year.

The Heath Department is now encouraging people to get vaccinated...
