FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - June 5 - June 26, 2009

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

thanks niman! I have updated our details list with the info.

so would that mean AZ unidentified death #6 was in the 25-64 age range? AZ #3 and #4 would have accounted for the 2 deaths 5-24 years old, I think.

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

Re: Onondaga County
County DOH site updated with data through 6/16/09 showing confirmatory case counts; no deaths noted. However, the last press release was on 6/10/09, and it appears they issued a press release for each of the 2 prior deaths. So??.. there is no other death thus far??

Posted to the thread on 6/10/09:

I've got additional for NY- Onandaga County- reported today.

I've got your most recent for Texas- 60 years old- as Texas 8th.

This could have been a repeat article that colormyquilt found about NY State death #11: Onondaga County, Syracuse unidentified adult, reported 6/9/09

I haven't heard anything about a third Syracuse death either. Would you guys like this suspected death removed from the list?

It might clean things up a bit, and it can always be added back if something new pops up. But, either way is fine.

niman,
I read that AZ report the same way, at 1st blush. However, if you look at the 6/10/09 report, they list 2 deaths for "children (less than 18 years)". sorry, I forgot that they had actually disclosed ages of the other deaths! I guess I was getting used to NYC's non-descriptive disclosures.
I'm glad this was ignored. I'll try to pay better attention. ;)

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

Just thinking out loud, looking at the release of new fatality figures . . . wonder if these are some of the 249 that suddenly got revised to 140 at the WHO briefing last week. That's getting perilously close to accusing WHO of deliberate misleading, which I don't want to do. But it's odd, all the same, that the figure was revised downward, but now we're being told there actually were additional deaths before Level 6 was announced. I'm going to watch over the next few days, or weeks or however long it takes, to see whether the fatalities eventually did add up to 249 at the time of the briefing. No proof of anything, granted, but it's hard not to become cynical.

 Question. I saw these two news items. They looked to me like they were both for the same seven. Are you sure that #'s 23-29 are not the same as #'s 30-36. It just seems strange to get a report for TWO clusters of 7 that were hospitalized in late May. -k

The New York Department of Health website shows 30 deaths in the city, which is consistent with two separate reports of 7 deaths.

Hey cutter, if you have a list going why not share it on the thread?

As far as I can tell the most current reporting on the Yonkers woman is still 6/11/09.

http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2009906110482

Look at the vague language they use to announce her death:

A 29-year-old Yonkers woman appears to be the first H1N1 swine flu death in Westchester, county health officials reported Friday.

and yet the title of the article is:

Westchester's first swine flu death

Not "Westchester County Suspects First Swine Flu Death" like all of the other articles about the suspected deaths I have read. Her cause of death is pending autopsy. Should I pull her and put her on the suspected list?

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

Readymom, thanks for pointing that out! The article is dated 6/4/09 and only describes the person as a "Milwaukee adult" with a common underlying medical condition.

Could this be Wisconsin Death #1: Milwaukee 27 year old woman, Andrea Morgan, died 6/3/09 reported 6/4/09 *common underlying condition, sought treatment 5/31, sent home?

The 2 separate reports of 7 dead in NYC are accurate as far as I know. Each group is also described the same way as "hospitalized in late May" which has made me wonder if they have a big backlog of deaths that they are reporting in batches. 7 dead and then 3 days later 7 more dead seems too orchestrated somehow.

Confusion by design. The total deaths for NY city alone is now 30, as indicated on their website. The same number was used twice in the same week, accompanied by few specifics on the cases.

I strongly suspect that these two block releases are young adults who had NO underlying condition (which is why 40% was stated at the CDC press conference and changed to 70%). It is not easy to mix up 40% with 70%, just as it is not easy to mix up 249 dead with 140 dead).
