Two indigenous cases of dengue in the Gard

Two indigenous dengue cases were diagnosed in the Gard department, in addition to six reported cases in PACA since 2010, said today the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Languedoc-Roussillon. "The two people inhabit the same house, they are so far healed and healthy," says ARS in a statement, adding, "(that) this is for now a single household (of contamination) and geographically isolated. " Gard Prefecture for his part said that these cases had been diagnosed in Nimes.

The ARS emphasizes that "from the reporting of such cases and to prevent spread of dengue virus, health authorities have strengthened epidemiological surveillance measures (active case with physicians and laboratories of the sector) and entomological ( investigation of mosquito populations and treatment with insecticide if necessary) at the scene of life, work and leisure of the people concerned. Four new suspected cases of dengue

Two people were infected by a tiger mosquito. Field surveys in their neighborhood, has identified four potential new cases.

While two dengue cases newly diagnosed in Nimes, four new people were undergoing exams this weekend: they have anyway signs consistent with the Dengue virus, a disease that is transmitted to humans by a bite of the tiger mosquito.

This is a result of epidemiological and entomological field surveys this week that the four suspected cases have been identified. The first two confirmed cases (previously treated and cured) lived in the same dwelling and had not traveled in recent weeks .

Three new indigenous cases of dengue, a disease transmitted by the tiger mosquito, have been diagnosed in a neighborhood southeast of Nimes, where two patients had already been identified.

These three patients were detected after a field survey of the health authorities, conducted in late August after the discovery of the first two cases in the same family. They are now "healed and healthy," said a spokesman for the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Languedoc-Roussillon.

Disinfestation operations

Dengue, which is transmitted to humans only by the bite of the tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) in France, is a disease generally
benign which causes complications in about 1% of cases. In N?mes, the authorities conducted bugging operations to try to get rid of the tiger mosquitoes and their larvae, and call people to contribute by paying particular attention not to leave standing water in their homes, and protect themselves with mosquito repellent and long clothing.

No other indigenous cases since 1 May

Health officials talk about the case "indigenous" when a person has contracted the disease without, in the previous 15 days, traveling in an area where the virus circulates. From May 1 to August 28, 2015, no other case of indigenous dengue were identified in France, according to the National Institute of Health Surveillance, but 62 dengue cases "imported" by patients who had traveled in infested areas were diagnosed.

Health surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon.

Epidemiologically to 17 September 2015.

A cluster of indigenous dengue has been identified in an area of N?mes. To 17/09, there have been six confirmed cases and one probable case (case that can not be laboratory confirmed).

In this context, the Gard department was placed in Level 3 of the National Anti spread chikungunya control plan / dengue.

In Languedoc-Roussillon, 197 reports of suspected chikungunya and / or dengue cases have been received since 1 May 2015. Ten imported cases of dengue and of chikungunya two imported cases were confirmed (all acquired during a trip to endemic area). Six cases of indigenous dengue have been confirmed.
