A case of bird flu in a poultry farmer in Bomy (62)

An outbreak of avian flu has been detected in a poultry farmer in the village of Bomy between Fruges and Fauquembergues. The outbreak has been depopulated and disinfected according to the Pas de Calais prefecture.
The suspicion of infection followed the observation of abnormal mortality among the keeper's birds.
This is the first outbreak in a private holder identified in France since last winter, in addition to the three outbreaks confirmed this summer in poultry farming in Brittany.
In accordance with health management rules, monitoring and control measures were taken immediately. The home was depopulated and disinfected without delay, cleaning and disinfection will continue over the coming days.
Furthermore, since August, France has declared nine cases in non-migratory wild birds.
In the absence of evidence of the arrival of infected migratory birds in France, the level of risk relating to avian influenza remains negligible. However, stakeholders in the breeding sectors have been informed of the situation, as has the departmental hunting federation. Increased vigilance applied to event surveillance in all sectors and strict routine compliance with biosecurity measures for all links in the sectors is particularly recommended. Surveillance and vigilance are also valid for private bird owners.
The consumption of meat, foie gras and eggs – and more generally any food product made from poultry – does not present any risk to humans.

An outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) was confirmed on Friday, September 20 in a captive bird keeper located in the commune of Bomy (Saint-Omer district) in the Pas-de-Calais department. The suspicion of infection followed a finding of abnormal mortality among the keeper's birds.
This is the first outbreak in a private holder identified in France since last winter, in addition to the three outbreaks confirmed this summer in poultry farming in Brittany.
