An outbreak of “highly pathogenic” avian influenza was confirmed on Friday March 3, 2023 in Mézidon-Canon (Calvados), “in a non-commercial farm holding poultry (barnyard)”, indicates the prefecture in a press release Tuesday 7 March 2023.

“As part of the measures to combat the spread of the virus, an operation to depopulate the poultry present on the farm concerned by the case of avian influenza has been carried out”, announces the prefecture. As required by the procedure, the authorities have set up “regulated protection zones (ZP), surveillance (ZS) and an additional regulated zone (ZRS) to avoid any risk of spreading the virus to other farms”.
