Bird flu detected on farm near Wismar

After a case of avian influenza has been detected in a private poultry farmer near Wismar, the district of Nordwestmecklenburg wants to discuss today consequences. As reported by the Ministry of Agriculture in Schwerin, one duck was found to be the highly influenza A virus of subtype H5.


More than 100 animals killed

However, a surveillance zone was not set up in consultation with the Ministry of Agriculture. It is currently not considered necessary to order a stable obligation for other poultry farms. The background is that in recent months, no live poultry was brought in or out of the affected stock. Within a radius of one kilometer, there are no other registered poultry farmers.

In a small poultry farm in the Hanseatic city of Wismar, district of Nordwestmecklenburg, the highly pathogenic avian influenza A virus of subtype H5 was detected in a duck last night. The samples, which had initially been examined by the State Agency for Agriculture, Food Safety and Fisheries MV, had been sent as some of the animals showed signs of respiratory disease.
The suspicion of the presence of avian influenza was confirmed by the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut.
