Guam - Public Health reports that there is a confirmed case of Pertussis (more commonly known as "whooping cough"). The case was found in a 5-month-old infant who had not received any vaccination...

Guam - The Guam Department of Public Health has confirmed additional cases of whooping cough on island. Out of the fourteen reports the agency received of Pertussis, seven so far have been laboratory confirmed, with six remaining as suspect case and one that was determined not to be whooping cough...

Guam - The Guam Department of Public Health has been flooded with reports of suspect cases of whooping cough. Out of the 22 reports of Pertussis they've received so far, 8 have been confirmed as whooping cough, another as a probable case, two were determined not to be Pertussis, while eleven remain suspect cases...

Guam - The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) has received 22 reports of suspect Pertussis cases (whooping cough) to date; 8 were laboratory confirmed, one is classified as a probable case that meets the clinical case definition for pertussis, 11 remain suspect cases, and 2 were determined not to be pertussis. Epidemiologic investigation of the cases has not shown any linkage to each other or to an off-island source. Investigations to determine possible sources of exposure on Guam are ongoing...

Whooping cough cases surge

Guam - Public Health is seeing a major increase in suspect cases of whooping cough, as a total of 118 suspect cases have been reported, with almost half of them confirmed. Public Health has also received a report from a local physician that suspects the death of 6-week-old baby was due to complications possibly associated with Pertussis.

If you haven't done so already, you are advised to make sure your child is immunized.

Public Health is expressing concern because there is a vaccine available to prevent pertussis.
