GUATEMALA CITY .- Guatemalan Health Minister Celso Cerezo, reported Tuesday that the deaths from influenza A (H1N1) amount to 12 and those infected to 720 in this Central American country.

During a meeting with deputies from the opposition Partido Patriota (PP), Cherry explained that since last August 15 until today there have been 96 new cases of the virus, including two deaths.

Until that date there were 624 recorded cases of the disease and 10 deaths, since it began detecting human influenza cases in Guatemala in early May 2009.

The minister said that his ministry has at least 33 thousand doses of oseltamivir (antiviral) to deal with influenza A (H1N1).

Most cases of the virus, he said, have occurred in the departments of Guatemala (which includes the capital), Escuintla, Quetzaltenango.

Guatemala, October 14 .- The Guatemalan health authorities announced today that they expect a new "wave" of influenza A, which has so far killed 13 people and infected the other 823.

The Minister of Health and Welfare, Ludwig Ovalle, said today at the official launch of a plan to combat influenza, the disease is controlled, but experts have warned of a resurgence of the virus since November.
