Ahmedabad, Sept 1 Gujarat government has clarified that Dinesh Agera, who died at V S hospital today, was not H1NI positive.
Announcing this, State Principal Secretary, Health, Ravi Saxena made it clear that so far, eight persons have succumbed to swine flu in the state.
Saxena had initially said that Agera died of swine flu.
But, later, the state health department found out that his test report was negative for the virus.
"Initially, it was considered to be a flu death but his swab samples at B J Medical Institute had tested negative for H1N1 virus," Saxena clarified.
He was suffering from influenza A and has died of common flu, the Principal Secretary said.
A resident of the city, 40-year-old Agera, was first admitted to a private hospital on August 30 and was last night shifted to government run V S Hospital, where he died today.
Meanwhile, five new cases of swine flu were reported from the state today, taking the figure of H1N1 virus infected cases to 118 in Gujarat.
Of the five cases, three were reported from Surat and two from Ahmedabad, health department officials said.
