Three CCHF patients discharged in Ahmedabad

Three persons, who were carrying the Crimean Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) virus, were on Monday discharged from the civil hospital, officials said.

"Three persons, who had tested positive for CCHF virus, and were under treatment at Civil Hospital, were discharged on Monday," said, Dr Sudhir Gandhi, additional director, epidemics, state health department.

"There are no other confirmed cases of CCHF," said Dr Gandhi.

50 samples test -ve for CCHFin Ahmedabad

A day after three Crimean Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) patients were fully cured and discharged from hospital, 50 serum samples, tested by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, have tested negative for CCHF, official sources said.

However, test reports of more than 150 samples are still awaited. Gandhi said that no fresh case of CCHF virus has been detected in the city in the last 24 hours. He also said that the government was focusing on activities related to tick control and cattle disinfection to prevent spread of the deadly virus.

Till 10th Feb. 2011, out of the total of 298 blood samples of cases/contacts sent for virology test, 9 samples have tested positive for Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) by RTPCR. Investigation done by the Central team with State/District RRT and samples tested at NIV, Pune. Cases treated with Ribavirin. Daily fever survey carried out and blood samples of other contacts
sent for testing for CCHF. Entomological studies undertaken in villages Kolat, Shela and Telav under Block Sanand included tick collection from cattle and rodent trapping for collection of serum samples/ ticks/ other ectoparasites/ tissue smears of rodents. Tick vector control measures undertaken by Animal Husbandry Department of Gujarat included IRS with Deltamenthrin in cattle sheds and cattle treatment with Flumethrin and Deltamethrin. Health education given regarding causation, transmission and prevention of the disease and personnel protection measures to be adopted by the contacts and the health-care officials involved in surveillance.

Suspected Congo virus case in VS Hospital

Gandhinagar:: A suspected case of Congo fever from Dhanvada village in Bavla taluka is undergoing treatment at VS Hospital on Wednesday.

District health officials in Ahmedabad have already been alerted about the case and have been asked to undertake sanitation measures throughout the village area. The Dhanvada patient's blood sample has been sent to National Institute of Virology, Pune, on Tuesday for tests, the result of which is being awaited.
