249 swine flu deaths in India this year

New Delhi: As many as 249 people have died of swine flu in India so far this year with the highest toll reported from Rajasthan, the Health Ministry said on Monday.

Youth dies of swine flu in Jamnagar

JAMNAGAR: Twenty-five-year-old Ravi, a resident of Timbafali area in Jamnagar, succumbed to swine flu here on Sunday night.

Ravi was admitted to GG Hospital three days ago after he complained of cough and ran fever. His blood and cough samples were sent for test. He tested positive for H1N1 virus and died on Sunday night, sources said.

The state health department has registered 251 cases of H1N1 infections, or swine flu, across Gujarat this year that have claimed 47 lives.

One more swine flu death in Ahmedabad

With the death of a 78-year-old woman from Usmanpura on Monday due to swine flu, the total death toll from the viral in the city has climbed up to 7.

The woman, a resident of Usmanpura was under treatment at a private hospital in the city. In all, the city has seen 25 cases of swine flu till Monday. Overall the state has recorded 251 cases, of which, 97 have been cured while 107 are still under treatment.

Swine flu claims six more lives in state

Six more swine flu deaths were reported on Wednesday, bringing the total number of H1N1 fatalities in the state this year to 54.

Meanwhile, a team of health officials, led by the health secretary, is heading to Rajkot, the epicentre of this year's outbreak, to review the situation. They will examine reports from more than two dozen medical teams that fanned out across seven districts earlier this week.

A total 277 people have been infected by the flu virus across seven districts since January 1, of whom 115 have been discharged from various hospitals upon recovery.

As of now, 108 patients are currently being treated.

Two more succumb to swine flu in Rajkot

RAJKOT: Two more people died of dreaded swine flu in Rajkot. While 45-year-old Shantaben of Rajkot died in a private hospital, 62-year-old Velji Satasiya of Amreli passed away while being treated at civil hospital.

Sources said four fresh suspected swine flu patients have been admitted to the civil hospital. Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) officials said there are nine swine flu positive cases from the city undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

"Three patients are under treatment at private hospitals, while six patients are being treated at the civil hospital. We are closely monitoring the cases," an official said. RMC sources said the civic body has started distributing Tamiflu tablets to those people who have come in contact with swine flu positive patients as a precautionary measure.

Two women die of swine flu in Rajkot

Rajkot: Two women succumbed to H1N1 virus at Rajkot civil hospital Thursday morning even as Gujarat health secretary met doctors here and formed a rapid action team to control spread of the disease in the city.

Ratanben Savjibhai (55) and Shantaben Bhikhabhai, residents of Gondal town who were admitted to the civil hospital few days back and tested positive for swine flu passed away this morning, hospital sources said.

Meanwhile, state health secretary P K Taneja visited the swine flu ward in the hospital and also met private practitioners to take stock of the situation.

A rapid action team has been formed to create awareness among the people and to control the disease, sources said.

Of the 36 persons admitted to the civil hospital recently, 15 tested positive while reports of 21 are yet to be received, sources added. -

Ahmedabad: A high-level meeting of health officials was held on Friday to discuss rising incidence of swine flu and related deaths in Ahmedabad. It should be noted that despite not being among top three states to report swine flu cases, Gujarat continues to record maximum number of deaths after Rajasthan.

Swine flu, so far, has claimed 60 lives in the state, among 324 patients have tested positive for the deadly disease.

Three more test swine flu positive in Jamnagar

Jamnagar: Three more patients tested positive of swine flu in Jamnagar district on Saturday. Sources said that 16 patients have tested swine flu positive in the district over the last four days. Sources said that most of the cases are from Jamnagar city.

District health officer (DHO) Dr J J Pandya said besides setting up a special isolation ward to treat swine flu patients, a special drive has been started to generate awareness among the residents.

The emphasis is on persuading people showing symptoms of the flu to get themselves tested at the earliest. A mobile van is being utilized for the purpose.

VADODARA: A 39-year-old man died of swine flu at a private hospital in the city on Monday. Two others tested positive for the virus and are under treatment

A resident of Tarsali, Ritesh Patel had been admitted to hospital since last week. He died on Monday at around 11.30 am. His samples were sent for testing on Thursday. Reports that arrived on Saturday showed that he was H1N1 positive.

Patel was cremated with necessary precautions. He is survived by wife, a daughter and mother. With the death of Patel, the number of deaths due to swine flu in the city has gone up to six.

Officials said the samples of two women tested positive on Sunday and they were under treatment. They added that the samples of two other suspected cases had been sent for analysis and reports were expected on Tuesday.

RAJKOT: The dreaded swine flu claimed another victim in Rajkot on Sunday. Rabiyabeb (37) of Ramnathpara area died while being treated at civil hospital.

Sources said she was admitted to the hospital on February 28 with symptoms of swine flu and had tested positive.

8 cases of swine flu in Gandhinagar

AHMEDABAD: The state capital Gandhinagar has registered a total of 8 cases of swine flu in the past 18 days.

The high frequency of the occurrence has left the district health machinery in a bind.

Most of these cases are coming from neighboring villages of the capital city.

Some of them have already been sent to isolation wards in hospitals in Ahmedabad.

The state health department has already started mass awareness drives in villages in the state.

"Swine flu is no longer restricted to urban areas in Gujarat. We are worried as more cases are reported from villages. We have put up posters and information leaflets across all major government health centers in the village and taluka levels," says a senior the medical officer in the state health department.

100 teams to control H1N1 outbreak

GANDHINAGAR: The state government has constituted 100 teams for monitoring the situation arising from the swine flu outbreak and to generate awareness on the disease. Health minister Nitin Patel chaired a review meeting on the steps being taken to tackle the outbreak on Tuesday even as two more patients succumbed to the H1N1 virus in Surat and Rajkot.

The minister said that the government is offering free laboratory services to people undertaking tests for swine flu detection. He said that well equipped isolation wards have been set up in the areas from where the incidence is being reported. tnn

The participants in the review meeting discussed ways and means to involve private doctors in tackling the disease outbreak. Running awareness scrolls on television channels and organizing ayurvedic camps were also discussed.

Meanwhile, a 60-year-old woman Ila Solanki of Laxmi Nagar in Rajkot succumbed to the swine flu at civil hospital. She was admitted to the hospital on March 2. At present 25 patients are being treated in the isolation ward at the civil hospital out of which 19 are confirmed cases of swine flu.

In Surat too, a patient identified as 44-year-old Nehal Shah died while being treated at Adventist Hospital. He was under treatment for 15 days. He was an officer in a private company and was hospitalized on February 17.

RIL official dies of swine flu in Surat

A 44-year-old senior general manager of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) died of swine flu at a hospital here on Tuesday. Nehal Shah, a resident of Vesu in Surat who was working in RIL's environment department at Hazira, was admitted to Seventh Day Adventist Mission Hospital on February 17.

He was tested positive for the deadly H1N1 infection two days ago.
