Three dead due to swine flu in Ahmedabad


AHMEDABAD: After dengue fever which had gripped the city during November and December, it is the swine flu outbreak which is looming large in the city.

In the last three days since Tuesday evening, various hospital including private hospital have reported three deaths. However, according to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the death reported in the city two were from Rajasthan and one was from Bhuj.

AMC officials said that one Tasman Kanga (34 years) a resident of Pratapur in Banswada, Rajasthan, was admitted to a private hospital in Drive In road. Tasman was admitted to the hospital on January 6. Both the deaths were reported on Thursday.

In the second death one Manjula Bhanderi (28 years) a resident of Mandavi, Bhuj was admitted to a private hospital on the outskirts of the city on January 9. On Tuesday, Savalsingh Sansingh Rajput (42) a resident of Munda in Badmer Rajasthan had died during treatment at civil hospital in the city.

AHMEDABAD: Swine flu has started raising its ugly head over Kutch region once again. In the last two weeks 29 cases of swine flu, including one death, has been reported in this region. The Kutch district collectorate has already issued strict instructions to his district health staff to identify early cases of swine flu.

This is a steep rise when compared to last year when 28 swine flu cases were registered in the entire year in Kutch. While there have been 29 cases in just two weeks of January this year.

Both of them were admitted to the hospital in a critical condition two days before they died,? Dr Nandini Desai, medical superintendent of GG Hospital, told The Indian Express.

JAMNAGAR/AHMEDABAD: Swine flu scare is getting worse in Gujarat.

On Monday, three persons - two in Jamnagar and one in Surat - succumbed to the deadly HINI virus, taking the death toll in the state since January 1 to six. Earlier, one patient each had died in Mandvi, Bhuj and Jamnagar.

Kutch has seen a sudden surge in the disease with 29 people, mostly women, testing positive since January 1. Bhuj is the worst-affected accounting for 17 cases. However, only one person - a woman from Mandvi, died on January 6, chief district health officer (CDHO) of Kutch Pankaj Pandey.

Ever since the outbreak of swine flu in India in 2009, Gujarat has reported 20.42% deaths (per 100 patients) as compared to the national average of 6.65%.

Swine flu claimed four more lives including three women on Thursday, while another woman reportedly died of the H1N1 virus in Jamnagar on Wednesday evening.
A 53-year-old woman from Ankleshwar town in Bharuch district was admitted to Apple Hospital at Udhna Darwaja in Surat detected with Swine flu on Wednesday. She was rushed to New Civil Hospital late Wednesday night. However she died on Thursday afternoon.
Another 50-year-old woman from Palanpur, undergoing treatment in Surat Municipal Corporation-run SMIMER Hospital, succumbed to the H1N1 virus in the evening, said doctors.

Ahmedabad: Swine flu has claimed 22 lives in Gujarat this month, while the total number of cases has scaled up to 170 across the state, officials said Tuesday.

"The death-toll due to Swine flu reached 22 today, while the total number of H1N1 cases has scaled up to 170 in the entire state," Health Commissioner of Gujarat J P Gupta said.

AHMEDABAD: One person died of swine flu in the city on Wednesday, taking the death toll to five. The victim was a 50-year-old man from Sabarmati.
