Two patients die in NCH

SURAT: Two patients died on Monday evening in New Civil Hospital (NCH), which is fighting cases of vector-borne, water-borne and respiratory viral fever diseases since the past few days.
Twenty eight-year-old housewife Mira Shane died within 15 minutes of reaching NCH. She complained of severe nausea and vomited continuously on the way to hospital from her residence at Gurukripa Society in Singanpore. She had been vomiting and was uneasy since last three days. She was rushed to NCH when medicines from a local doctor failed to improve her condition.
Head of medicine department, NCH, Dr Sameer Trivedi said, "We did not get much chance of inspecting her as she reached us in a pulseless stage. She was gasping. To find the exact cause of her death, we have sent her body for postmortem. She was referred to us as a gastroenteritis patient."
Three-year-old Mohit Adiva of Kadodara died in NCH compound. He was also vomiting and had received treatment for fever and nausea at Community Health Centre. He was referred to NCH after a week, but died on reaching the hospital.
Trivedi said, "Vomiting could have occurred due to many reasons. That cannot be an indication that a patient was suffering from gastroenteritis or cholera. However, we are getting patients who are suffering from these diseases."
Available figures indicate the existence of water-borne diseases in the city. Flies and contaminated water cause jaundice, typhoid, cholera and gastroenteritis. People living in areas like Pandesara, Bhestan, Mithikhadi, and Limbayat are found to be suffering from these diseases.
Meanwhile, two new cholera cases were registered in NCH. An eight-year-old girl from Hajira and a two year-old boy from Somnath Society in Bhatar are being treated for cholera.
"Water-borne diseases are not a problem. This time it is mainly respiratory viral fever, which has gripped many areas of the city. SMC had recorded 14 cases of cholera. Five were sent to NCH and nine to SMIMER Hospital," SMC sources said.
