MD Paijit Warachit, Permanent Secretary for Public Health informed the press that a total of imported two million doses of H1N1 vaccine will be given to the most risky groups from 11 January until the end of March. Five groups of people have been categorized for the first lot of the vaccine. They include medical staff, women with 3-month pregnancy and over, overweight people, the disabled, and those sickened with chronic diseases.

According to the Director-General of the Disease Control Department, the vaccination will be conducted only at hospitals as all recipients must be treated under close medical observation for at least 30 minutes to see whether any unusual symptoms or complications develop after administration.

Thais have no allergic problem after vaccinated against A/H1N1 influenza

BANGKOK, Jan. 11 ? Thais, who were vaccinated against the A/H1N1 influenza on Monday, had no allergic reaction, according to a senior official.

Speaking from Phranangklao Hospital in Bangkok, Doctor Paijit Warachit, public health permanent secretary, said the outcome of the country's first day of vaccinating against the new flu is satisfying, Thai News Agency reported.

Phranangklao Hospital in Bangkok is one among hospitals nationwide where Thais in the most risky groups, have been vaccinated for free.

The public health ministry has been importing some two million doses of the A/H1N1 vaccine for those in the country's most risky groups.

The people viewed as the most risky groups include medical staff, women at least three-month pregnant, overweight people, disabled people, and those with chronic diseases.

The vaccination against the new flu started on Monday until the end of March. However, the vaccination's period for pregnant women is until May this year.

Last Wednesday, Thailand reported one more death case due to the A/H1N1 influenza, bringing the country's death toll from the new flu contraction to 192.

The latest victim was a pregnant woman, who had a history of diabetes and high blood pressure. (PNA/Xinhua) LOR/utb

Thais urged to voluntarily get vaccinated against A/H1N1 flu

Thailand's public health ministry Thursday instructed public health stations nationwide to urge people to voluntarily get vaccinated against the A/H1N1 influenza.

Only some 125,670 Thais were vaccinated against the A/H1N1 influenza during a period from January 11 to 29, Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanavisit disclosed Thursday.

Thailand's public health ministry with its two million doses of the vaccine against the new flu has been offering the vaccination until the end of March.

The 125,670 vaccinated people accounted for less 10 percent of the total two million doses of the vaccine available for the people in the most risky groups, the minister said.

Among the 125,670 vaccinated Thais largely included 84,099 medical staff, 24,428 people with chronic diseases, and 12,885 pregnant women.

The recent news reports of fetal deaths after the vaccination against the new flu of their mothers could affect the public confidence in the vaccine, he said.

However, medical experts have already proved that the fetal deaths were not linked to the anti-A/H1N1-influenza vaccination of their mothers, the minister said.
