The city has reported its first suspected death due to swine flu. However, the health department authorities are yet to confirm it as a swine flu death.

The patient, a 40-year-old female from Delhi, was admitted in a city hospital around September 10 with severe flu like symptoms of cough and fever. The test reports confirmed swine flu or H1N1 on September 14, according to a health department source.

[h=1]Three test positive for swine flu in pvt hospitals[/h] GURGAON: Private hospitals in the city have diagnosed three persons with swine flu, the first cases of the H1N1 infection to be reported in Gurgaon this season.

The three patients are a woman in her early 20s, another in her late 20s, and a man in his early 40s. All three have recovered from the infection and have been sent home, doctors said.

The health department, however, said these could not be treated as confirmed infections insisting the samples would have to first be passed through the procedural protocol of being tested at government-accredited or authorised laboratories.

Chief medical officer Ramesh Dhankar said, "The tests should be conducted in government-approved and designated labs. I don't know how private hospitals conducted the tests. So far, we have not received any report of any swine flu case in the city."

A doctor at a private hospital that treated two of the patients said, "Both patients we treated were from Old Gurgaon. We have sent the reports to the district health authorities."
