Five cases of Guillain Barr? syndrome are being investigated by specialists from the Ministry of Health, four of whom had a history of having applied the vaccine against influenza A H1N1.
There are four children hospitalized in Bloom, two remain in the intermediate care unit, are breathing with the aid of a device, the other is treated in the Rosales.
The last of the sick is a child of 11 years, San Salvador, was hospitalized on Thursday afternoon. He arrived with weakness in his legs and arms, said Eduardo Suarez Castaneda, director of Infectious Diseases.
The patient was immunized against the pandemic virus a month ago, also suffered from diarrhea after it showed weakness.
Suarez Castaneda indicated that performs a series of tests to determine what caused the paralysis in patients and to determine whether there is any connection with the vaccine against influenza A H1N1.
The first case was announced by Health Minister Maria Isabel Rodriguez, earlier this week, is a seven year old girl from San Salvador, and the second a boy of 10, resident in Cojutepeque.
Some samples have already been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, United States, the results are expected in the coming days.
Suarez Castaneda said that so far in the world, there is no scientific evidence to study the relationship between the syndrome and the influenza vaccine.
The Guillain Barre syndrome is a disease that causes a neurological disorder, the body's defense system attacks a part of the nervous system, causing paralysis in the body.
According to historical behavior, the cases start to rise in June and July and disappear in October. In June last year there were 12 patients with the syndrome, the entire network of businesses.
The Guillain Barre syndrome is related to infections, with toxic and the application of the polio vaccine and rabies, the latter made on the basis of the infant mouse brain.
Last year six people developed the disease after application of doses of rabies. Health replaced by a safer drug.
Health wants to establish what the real causes that produce the syndrome.
