GALVESTON ? The University of Texas Medical Branch is to give a free public demonstration of the way in which it prepared for and responded to the swine flu outbreak.
The medical branch is throwing open the doors of its Levin Hall on March 24 so members of the public can witness a presentation about its response to swine flu, which is caused by the H1N1 virus.
During the presentations, James LeDuc, deputy director of Galveston National Laboratory, and associate professor Rick Pyles, director of the medical branch?s molecular epidemiology laboratory, will discuss ?Emergency Preparedness: Response to the H1N1 Pandemic ? Challenges and Opportunities.?
The event includes lunch and begins at 11 a.m. March 24 at Levin Hall, 10th and Market streets. Although there is no charge to attend, reservations are required by Friday.
