Appeal for A positive and O positive blood donation

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) appeals to members of the public who are of A positive or O positive blood type to roll up their sleeves as soon as possible.

At present, the number of donations remains far less than required for daily hospital demands, which are rising.

Consequently, the territory-wide inventories of all blood types are noticeably decreased, particularly A positive and O positive types.

To maintain normal supply and replenish the inventory, the BTS needs 300 A positive and 500 O positive donors every day in the coming fortnight.

A spokesperson for the BTS said that more manpower would be deployed to donor centres when necessary, as the BTS continues to publicise its appeal for blood donation. In the meantime, its mobile collection teams will extend their service hours as required.

For the locations and service hours of donor centres, please call 2710 1234 or visit the BTS website www.ha.org.hk/rcbts .

Regular blood donation holds the key to a stable and adequate blood supply. Please act now!
