The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

Regarding the earlier announcement on Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci carrier cases, a spokesperson for Caritas Medical Centre made the following update today (March 4):

One 80-year-old male patient being tested in the follow-up screening test in Medical & Geriatric Department has been confirmed as a carrier of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci(VRE) today. He is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. Screening results of the remaining 18 patients were negative.

The new case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for further follow up.
