Hospitals better prepared for flu season

More than 90 percent of nurses say hospitals are "far better prepared" to handle a potential pandemic than they were this time last year, according to a survey released today.

Last year's H1N1 outbreak seems to have played a part in improved planning for possible pandemics, with 82 percent of nurses surveyed saying H1N1 was "a humbling lessons for which we learned a lot."

The survey of 525 nurses was jointly conducted by Roswell, Ga.-based Kimberly-Clark Health Care and Dallas-based Baylor Health Care System in cooperation with the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

"The survey results are encouraging," Dr. Wava Truscott, director of Medical Sciences & Eduction for Kimberly-Clark Health Care, said in a statement. "Clearly our hospitals have made great strides in emergency preparedness."
