L' accordo che era stato raggiunto pochi mesi fa sulla libera circolazione delle conoscenze scientifiche in caso di malattie emergenti, senza i lacci e i vincoli delle norme editoriali, continua a dare i suoi frutti con sempre nuovi articoli che escono in tempi rapidi e che sono liberamente accessibili.
Oggi ? uscito un articolo sulla rivista Science che dimostra come il virus Zika sia in gado di provocare un danno alle cellule neuronali fin dai primi stadi della loro maturazione. A questo risultato sono giunti mediante lo studio delle neurosfere ( agglomerati di cellule neuronali staminali) e degli organoidi cerebrali ( tessuti cresciuti in laboratorio che simulano lo sviluppo del cervello nel primo trimestre). Il virus zika causa la morte delle cellule, malformazioni e riduzione del 40% della crescita. Utilizzando il virus della dengue ( che appartiene alla stessa famiglia) si ? visto che questo, pur infettando le cellule come il virus zika, non provoca danni.
