Dengue. A specially trained physicians in the diagnosis Uruguayans. Currently, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) is betting heavily to the campaigns of vaccination against influenza A H1N1 and pneumococcus. The first, which ends on June 30, Gilberto Rios, director general of Health, said there trivalent stock VACUNATORIOS at all sites.
The chief stressed that the impact of influenza A H1N1 is far below that of last year. So much so that, for all samples collected from May to the date of the MSP sentinel sites where people discussed the flu and reports of intensive care unit, the prevalence is 25%. In 2009 this figure reached 99% according to studies of the epidemiological surveillance system.
Rivers attributes this low percentage to three elements. The first has to do with that many people who suffered the effects of this strain of influenza were immunized.
In addition, add the influence of the vaccination campaign, according to general manager predicted, will reach 700,000 individuals immunized. Rivers also recalled the importance of prevention worldwide, where it already has injected more than 400 million people, as well as regionally, which "minimizes the risk of spread of the virus."
The last factor is related to the fact that climatic conditions are becoming more rigorous than those of 2009.
Another front
As far as the campaign of vaccination against pneumococcus, which focuses on children up to five years, Rivers agreed that, in principle, not caught the attention of the population as happened with the influenza A H1N1. That led to the MSP to rework the strategy through contacts with the Uruguayan Society of Pediatrics and the Health department directors, to which was added to launch a propaganda campaign. From the point of view of top, the plan paid off in 10 days and achieved 10 000 small inoculating doses of vaccine trecevalente. Rivers estimated that, currently, the total immunization coverage should be around 50 000.
The campaign will run until July 30 and the chief believes that the goal may be to inoculate 160,000 children.
