Rourkela: Fears of anthrax gripped Birikeri village under Bisra block of Sundargarh district with the death of two villagers in recent past.

While five others affected by anthrax are undergoing treatment at the Rourkela government hospital, four are admitted to the Bisra hospital.

To ascertain the reasons behind the spread of anthrax in the area, a team of doctors today visited Birikeri village and collect blood samples of the resident in the area.

Asked about how he came to know he has been affected by anthrax, Asish Tigga, a patient, said, ?Initially boils appeared on the skin and thereafter it grew in size and ruptured. That?s how I thought of being anthrax-affected. As animal carcasses are either buried or thrown in open, the environment is getting polluted to help anthrax spread.?...

KORAPUT : At Least three tribals have been affected by anthrax in Koraput district. The affected persons of Kundra block were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital on Saturday.

They are Narja Parja, Ratna Parja and Ramchandra Parja of Keduguda village under the block. They had consumed rotten beef in the village a few days back...

Dasmantapur: A person died while two others were reportedly affected in a suspected breakout of anthrax at Munda Jhola village under this block in Koraput district Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Betru Saunta while the affected were Sukiya Saunta (40) and Siri Saunta (45) of the same village. The incident triggered panic in the village.
Locals claimed that Betru?s hands and legs swelled with blisters all over his body.
He suffered severe pain and arson and succumbed to the disease. Soon, the disease affected Betru?s neighbours Sukiya and Siri, locals said.

Vishakhapatnam, June 28: Five patients who had been suspected with skin Anthrax at the King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam were shifted to a Vizag hospital after they test positive for the skin disease on Tuesday. The doctors, in a press conference, said that the five patients might have infected with the disease after they consumed goat meat some three weeks ago, which was infected with Bacillus anthracis, the bacteria that causes Anthrax.

Consumption of stale meat identified as the reason
The condition of all the five anthrax-affected persons of Pinapadu village of Chintapalli mandal in the Agency area of the district, who were admitted to the King George Hospital (KGH), is stable, in charge Superintendent A. Krishna Murthy said on Wednesday.

V. Chittibabu (23), G. Appa Rao (60), S. Sanyasi Rao (50), S. Venkateswara Rao (25), Pangi Lakhmi (30) had consumed stale meat of a cow. They subsequently developed ulcers and lesions and were initially admitted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Lothugedda.
