More than 300 leprosy cases have been detected in Valsad so far this year, during government health campaigns carried out after a gap of four years, officials said on Tuesday.
A total of 348 cases were detected when the leprosy department carried out the detection campaigns in 469 villages of different talukas, including Pardi, Umargam, Dharampur, Kaparada, Valsad and Vapi, in two phases — the first from January 1-20 and the second between June 10 and July 2.
“In January, our teams detected 134 cases out of which 66 were non-infectious and 68 were infectious, including 10 minors. Again, we conducted a drive in June and found 214 cases out of which 114 were infectious and 100 non-infectious that included seven minors,” Valsad’s Nuclear Medicine Officer Dr Sanjay Kumar told The Indian Express.
While 32 infectious cases were found in Kaparada, Dharampur had 37 non-infectious patients, according to the leprosy department...
