KOLKATA: The city recorded yet another dengue death on Thursday. Sumita Makhal, 23, a resident of Nepalganj in Bishnupur block of South 24-Paraganas succumbed to the virus at the MR Bangur Hospital after a five-day battle.

Though the official death toll from dengue is nine, more than 60 are believed to have died in Kolkata. The last deaths occurred on October 13 when a 36-year-old woman died at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, and a 12 year-old girl succumbed at BC Roy Hospital. While the woman had tested positive under the Mac Elisa test, the girl was NS 1 positive.

Post-monsoon, there has been a surge in the number of patients with dengue being admitted to city and at least three persons from Pune have already succumbed to the virus. However, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) seems to be in the dark about these deaths.
Authorities at city hospitals like KEM, Ruby Hall and Deenanath Mangeshkar confirmed the dengue deaths and that the data had been provided to the PMC.

The end of monsoon has led to a sharp rise in cases of dengue in the city. As per data compiled by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 647 patients in the city’s civic hospitals have been tested positive for dengue till date. Of these, 157 cases have been registered in the last 15 days. The figures show an alarming rise from the 416 cases reported last year. The disease has also claimed three lives this year.

Dengue-like cases detected in Churachandpur

Imphal, October 18 2012: After two persons of a family living in Don Bosco colony of Churachandpur have been found suffering from a dengue-like infection, blood samples have been collected and sent to RIMS laboratory for confirmation.
According to information received from the State Malaria Officer, Natoinal Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, a 76 year old woman and her 38 year old daughter-in-law have been suffering from fever for about the last 10 .
As the symptoms looked suspicious, blood samples were tested in two medical laboratories of Churachandpur.
However, the two laboratories gave contradictory results with one saying that it was found negative while the other said it was positive.

Dengue cases hit 1000 mark in Gurgaon

GURGAON: Panic gripped NCR on Thursday as dengue cases in the Millennium City's private hospitals crossed the 1,000 mark. But the district health department, on its part, confirmed only 201 cases.
Moreover, 610 cases of malaria and four cases of swine flu have also been reported. While private hospitals claimed five people have died of dengue, the health department has confirmed only one death.

149 fresh dengue cases reported

As many as 149 fresh dengue positive cases have been reported by the Health Directorate in the last 10 days in the State with nearly 76 cases being reported in Bangalore City alone.
The Health Department has been sending samples to the National Institute of Virology for re-testing and as per the latest reports, 2,962 persons including 753 persons from the City have tested positive.

The winter season is around the corner, yet there has been no let up in dengue cases. As many 11 patients have confirmed positive for the disease in different hospitals in the city in the last five days alone.
Besides this, nine patients from different parts of the state were reported to be suffering from the dengue fever in the city during this period.
With this the total number of dengue patients has reached to 90 this season, while about 185 people from outside the city have tested positive.

Odisha dengue cases climb to 1,412

Bhubaneswar : Odisha Thursday confirmed 56 new dengue cases in the state and one death taking the total of those infected by the mosquito-borne disease to 1,412 and deaths this year to five.
The latest victim was a 36-year-old woman from Bolangir district, joint director of the state health department M.M. Pradhan told IANS.
