PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has recorded 29 dengue cases between January 1 and 17 this year.

Cold weather conditions are unfavourable for the growth of mosquitoes, but there has been no respite from mosquito-borne diseases so far despite the drop in temperature. Besides dengue, three cases of malaria and a case of chikungunya have been reported. Experts blamed it on the fluctuation in temperature.

As per the PMC, 880 dengue cases were reported in the city last year while eight succumbed to the infection. As many as 238 cases were recorded in November alone.

The viral disease which is transmitted by Aedes Aegypti feeds during the day. People usually take precautions against mosquitoes during the night but seldom during the day, hence they should be advised to take precautionary measures against mosquito bites during the day as well. Tourists entering the state could be carriers of the dengue virus, so any tourist who complains of fever should mandatorily be tested for dengue.

Nine cases of dengue in Pune

PUNE: As many as seven cases of dengue were recorded in the city last week. With this, the number of cases of the mosquito-borne infection has gone up to 8 so far this month and 47 so far this year.

"Cases of dengue are being reported, although the number has gone down considerably over the last one month. There was no death due to dengue this year," said S T Pardeshi, medical officer of health (MoH), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Eighty per cent of the people in the city who got mosquito-borne diseases, mainly dengue, had vector breeding spots right at their homes.

Three more Nair doctors test positive for dengue
Days after four psychiatrists from BYL Nair Hospital were tested positive for dengue; three more of their colleagues have been tested positive for the disease.

One of the three, a woman resident doctor, has been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Mumbai Mirror on Friday reported about the four doctors who were tested positive for the disease and that two of them were in ICU.

The doctors at Nair Hospital are now baffled with all the seven cases as dengue during this season is quite unusual.

Civic body finds dengue breeding in doctor quarters

MUMBAI: The root of a cluster of dengue cases at the BYL Nair Hospital campus has been traced to the hostel room of one of the resident doctors. The civic body's extensive dengue campaign seems to have eluded their own doctors after all as the insecticide department found out over the weekend.

Recently, around eight cases of dengue among resident doctors sprung the hospital administration into action. Of the three who required admission, two continue to be hospitalized. BMC's insecticide department that combed the entire campus found just one breeding spot in a feng shui plant inside a doctor's room on the first floor.

According to the civic health department, there have been 925 dengue cases and 11 confirmed deaths due to dengue in 2013.

The count of dengue cases in the civic-run Nair Hospital has risen sharply with as many as 10 resident doctors and one barber working in the hospital suspected of having contracted the disease. While three had to be admitted to the hospital?s Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) due to low platelet count, the rest were kept under observation in the general ward.
BMC Deputy Executive Health Officer Dr Mangala Gomare said, ?The situation in Nair Hospital is unusual because dengue cases in the city have dropped since December last. Every week, four to five cases are reported across the city. The 11 cases in Nair Hospital are suspected dengue cases.?

RANCHI: With the onset of summers, the first dengue case of the year was detected in the state on Sunday. Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) in Ranchi tested a reserve force personnel positive after he was admitted to an isolation ward at the hospital with high fever and vomiting on April 15.

R Duriapandi (30), a Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) 49th Battalion jawan and a resident of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, complained of high fever during his deployment at Taimara area of Bundu, 29km east of Ranchi.

But the hospital authorities said the patient is out of danger. Hospital staff on duty added that although they receive 10 cases of high fever and vomiting every week, Duriapandi was the first person tested positive this year. "Last year, the first case of dengue was detected in August. This year, the first case was reported early," said the sister in charge of the isolation ward at the hospital.

Rise in Dengue, Malaria cases in Mulky, health dept inform residents to take precautions

Mangalore: ?The health department has taken precautionary measures in Mulky region, where few cases of Dengue and Malaria were found, to control the spread of diseases. Panjim police in grip of dengue scare

The town police is under a dengue scare with 5 policemen ? including a sub inspector - suspected to have contracted the disease, arguably due to the unhygienic surroundings around the edifice housing the staff. Dengue fever is prevalent in the state with cases being reported on a regular basis all around.
Two constables are likely to have been infected, while three others are also suspected to be infected by the viral fever. However, the medical report is pending.
Sources in the department attribute the outbreak to unhygienic conditions prevailing around the town police station.
There are also fears that many more could get infected with the virus as the police station building also houses other units like the Anti Narcotics Cell, police control room for North Goa, Panjim Traffic Cell and Women Police Station. These police head quarters are where top police officials including the Director General of Police are seated.
The affected police officials though discharged from the hospital are still undergoing medical treatment.

Unseasonal rain causes spurt in dengue cases

AURANGABAD: The monsoon season may still be two weeks away, but the mosquito menace has already risen its head in the region. Frequent changes in weather have caused an unusual spurt in dengue cases over the last week, leading to patients crowding medical clinics in the city.

Two patients, both residents of Jalna, succumbed to the disease while undergoing treatment at a city hospital.

Intensivist at Seth Nandlal Dhoot Hospital Varun Gawli, where the two were undergoing treatment, said that they had examined more than 15 dengue patients in the last one month. "Most of these patients were from the adjoining Jalna and Buldhana districts. Unfortunately, two patients died during treatment, while three are still admitted in the hospital," he said.

However, the number of dengue cases has seen a rise in the state in the last three years, especially in the months of May, June and July. This has led the officials of the Health Department to be watchful against dengue outbreaks,? highly placed officials in the Health Department said.

The Health Department records say that 310 cases of dengue and two deaths have already been reported in the state from January to April this year.
