Dengue deaths: Mismatch in govt, media reports

Under-reporting of dengue cases has come to light in Haryana this year. The government figures on the number of confirmed cases reported so far do not match the ground situation.
According to the Health Department figures, 1443 cases of dengue have been reported in the state until now. Sources say, ?No death due to dengue has been reported fromanywhere in the state, as per the government?s figures till Monday, as the deaths are immediately reported telephonically to the headquarters.?
However, media reports have confirmed two deaths in Hisar (Thandu Ram from Dabra and Kaushalya Devi from Urban Estate), two in Fatehabad (Milan Bhatia and Amar Chand Garg from Tohana) and one in Panchkula in the past few days.

Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Tuesday said that 18,328 persons in the state had been affected by dengue since January while dismissing allegations that the administration was pressuring private clinics and government hospitals to suppress or distort facts.

KOLKATA: Accompanying bacterial infections that have often remained undiagnosed have triggered the spurt in dengue deaths, believe a section of experts. Since dengue lowers the immunity levels of victims, they turn prone to bacterial attacks that could prove fatal if not treated. At least 15%-20% of the dengue-affected in Kolkata have an undetected secondary infection, they claimed.
A 42-year-old dengue patient suffered a renal failure at a private hospital last week.It left doctors intrigued since the patient had been stable. A blood culture revealed he had a bacterial infection that had aggravated his condition. "A high percentage of dengue patients, especially children and the elderly have suffered a bacterial infection or a super-added sepsis that has complicated matters.

Two people died from dengue in Kobharpur village of Kamalanganj in two days. In the village, more than six children are running ill with fever. The medical in-charge of the Community Health Center says that on Wednesday, the team will go to the village and distribute medicines by treating the sick. In this regard, they did not get the information before.
Sughar Singh, a resident of Kohrapur village, was suffering from fever. The family moved to Kanpur for treatment where the dengue was confirmed after the test.
