New Delhi: Thirty more persons, including a noted theatre personality, have died due to swine flu in the country taking the toll over the 1,300 mark even as SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, suspected to be suffering from the disease, was hospitalised.
Union Health Ministry data said 1,319 persons have perished due to the disease while the number of persons affected across the states stood at 24,661 as on March 6. The Ministry had on Friday said that 1,289 had died while the number of those affected by it across the states was 23,922 as on March 5 this year.

51 more swine flu deaths, affected cases cross 25,000 mark

Swine flu deaths continued unabated as 51 more people died of the virus raising the toll to 1370 while the number of affected crossed the 25,000 mark today.

According to data collated by the Union Health Ministry, the highest number of 322 deaths were in Gujarat where 5,521 people have been affected by the deadly virus.

Swine flu toll crosses 1,400-mark; Assam reports first death

New Delhi: The spectre of mounting swine flu losses continues in the country as the toll crossed the 1,400- mark today with 41 more deaths even as Assam registered its first casualty from the H1N1 virus, which has affected more than 25,000 people.
The Union Health Ministry said that, as on March 8, 1,401 persons had fallen prey to swine flu with the number of affected persons at 25,681.

Swine flu toll inches towards 1,500; number of cases crosses 26K

The total number of deaths due to the H1N1 virus stands at 1,482.

The swine flu toll in the country has swelled to 1,482 while the number of affected persons crossed the 26,000-mark on Tuesday even as a minister in the Rajasthan government tested positive for the disease.
The Union Health Ministry said that, as on March 9, the total number of deaths due to the H1N1 virus stands at 1,482 with as many as 26,455 people having been affected by the disease across the various states.

Deaths from swine flu -- influenza A (H1N1) pandemic 2009 virus -- in India crossed 1,500 this week, with the virus infecting more than 27,000 people.

This year, 27,234 cases and 1,537 deaths have been reported from all 36 states and UTs except five, shows data from the Union ministry of health. The only ones untouched by swine flu with no cases or deaths are Arunachal, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Tripura and Lakshwadeep.

Fifty more deaths took the swine flu toll close to the 1,600-mark with nearly 28,000 people affected even as a study by the US-based MIT suggested that the H1N1 virus may have acquired mutations which make it more ?severe and infectious?.

The Union Health Ministry today said that as on March 11, the swine flu toll in the country had reached 1,587 while the number of cases of the disease stood at 27,886.

Forty more people have succumbed to swine flu as the toll breached the 1600-mark while over 28,000 people have been affected by the H1N1 virus across the country.

According to Union Health Ministry data released today, till March 12, 1,627 people have perished while the number of affected stood at 28,441.

In Gujarat, the highest number of 368 people have died and while the number of affected cases was 5,969.

In Rajasthan, eight more people died, raising the toll due to the H1N1 virus to 367 since January 1, state officials said. The state has recorded 6,124 cases of the disease.

Meanwhile in Coimbatore a 38-year-old man, suffering from H1N1 influenza and undergoing treatment at the government hospital died, taking the number of swine flu deaths to seven since January in the district.

Overall media reported H1N1 fatalities this year are occurring at a historically high rate, much higher than in the corresponding periods in 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2010. The last was during the second pandemic wave. In 2013, the outbreak peaked in the second & third week of February. Both the most recent GISRS data and a graph of media reported deaths show that the outbreak is still in its growth phase. Activity remains high in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Of course since India lacks a comprehensive surveillance program, we are left with only media reports. Media reported H1N1 fatalities to date are listed below. Other types of influenza do not get reported. Worth bearing in mind that a study from 2012 estimated that, during the 2009-10 pandemic, confirmed fatalities in India represented only 2-3 % of total H1N1 fatalities. Thus these confirmed H1N1 fatalities could represent between 51,000 and 74,000 actual H1N1 related deaths, which in turn suggests millions of H1N1 cases this year. In addition, of course, there are other flu strains in circulation that we have little or no information about. Media reporting has suggested that testing for other flu strains is not occurring to any great extent even in fatal cases that do not test positive for H1N1. Multiple reports indicate that many confirmed deaths are not being included in the official tally. (Here and here for example). An MIT paper published this week suggested that mutations in the H1N1 virus noted in 2014 may be behind the elevated outbreak this year. This was immediately denied by the India National Institute of Virology. In reality, the minor controversy just highlights the complete lack of adequate surveillance and sequencing data from India. And this is truly the main issue here - There is something unusual going on in India this flu season and we have really no clue what it is.

Over 1,700 dead in country due to swine flu

NEW DELHI: 36 more deaths drove the swine flu toll past the 1700-mark while the total number of people suffering from the contagious disease reached close to 30,000 in the country this season.

36 more swine flu deaths, CPI-M leader tests positive

NEW DELHI:
Swine flu deaths continued unabated as 36 more patients perished due to the virus pushing the toll towards the 1,800-mark while the number of affected people crossed 30,000 today with senior CPI(M) leader Gautam Deb among scores who tested positive.
A medical bulletin issued by AMRI Hospital in Kolkata said 61-year-old Deb, a member of the party?s Central Committee, has tested positive for H1N1 and has been put on ventilator support.
Data collated by Union Health Ministry said that as on March 16, 1,767 people have died of swine flu while the number of affected persons stood at 30,366.

[h=1]People in 30-45 Age Group Worst Affected by Swine Flu[/h]
NEW DELHI: People in the age group of 30-45 years have been the worst affected by swine flu with most number of deaths, 34 per cent of the toll, taking place in this age bracket.
According to the Union Health Ministry, 34 per cent of the 723 deaths that were analysed have occurred in the age group 30-45 years, followed closely by those in the 45-60 bracket (32 per cent).
The Health Ministry has conducted an age and sex wise analysis of influenza A (H1N1) deaths. It has also analysed data to find out the most prevalent weeks, deaths due to co-morbid conditions and many other such aspects.
The analysis shows 17 per cent of deaths occurred in the age group of 18-30 years while 12 per cent of deaths were in the 60 and above age category.
Four per cent deaths have occurred in the age group of 0-12 per cent while the analysis further states that one per cent death has taken place in the age group of 12-18 years.
The analysis said that among the total deaths, 50.35 per cent of them were females while 49.65 per cent were males.
The Health Ministry figures shows that as on March 17, 1,809 persons have perished due to the disease while the number of affected persons across various states was 30,766. This is the first time that the Ministry has given detailed break-up of the number.

New Delhi, Mar 19: The swine flu toll inched towards the 1,900-mark as the disease claimed 32 more lives while the number of cases in the country today crossed 31,000. According to the Union Health Ministry, as on March 18, 1,841 people have succumbed to the disease while the number of people affected by the H1N1 virus stood at 31,156. Six more deaths in the last 24 hours took the toll in Rajathan to 397, just behind Gujarat, which has reported 400 casualties. The ministry said that the number of affected persons was 6,271 in Gujarat. The death toll in Maharashtra is 322 with 3,788 people having contracted the H1N1 virus. In Madhya Pradesh, 266 people have perished with 1,999 persons affected. The toll in Telangana is 74 while in Karnataka, following the death of another person, it has risen to 77. Fifty-two swine flu deaths have been reported in Punjab. (Also read: Swine Flu H1N1: Over 1,700 dead in country due to swine flu) The toll in West Bengal is 23 while Uttar Pradesh has witnessed 35 deaths. Jammu and Kashmir has seen 16 swine flu fatalities. Meanwhile, as per a ministry study, 34 per cent of the 723 swine flu deaths that were analysed had occurred in the age group 30-45 years followed closely by those in the 45-60 bracket, who accounted for 32 per cent of the fatalities.

New Record of Swine Flu Deaths and Cases in India

New Delhi, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) Swine flu set a new record of 1,841 deaths in India, which far exceeds the death toll of 1,763 registered in 2010. Swine flu cases have also showed an upward trend with 31,156 cases reported, which also far outnumbered the six-year-ago record of 27,236 infected people. Although the government refuses to admit this is an epidemic, the virus has already spread to more than half of the 29 states of the country.
