Two test positive for H1N1, one critical

PUNE: A 29-year-old woman from Pandharpur and a 30-year-old man from Magarpatta tested positive for swine flu on Thursday. The condition of the woman is critical and is being treated at the isolation ICU of KEM hospital. With this, the number of infected patients in the city has gone up to 11 since April. The highest number of cases, five, was reported this month.
"The woman has been put on ventilator since she was admitted on July 18. The man from Magarpatta is taking treatment at a private hospital in Hadapsar, and is likely to be discharged in a day," said a civic body official.
The woman developed the symptoms from July 10. "She didn't see a doctor till July 15. As her condition worsened, she was admitted to a private hospital in Solapur. The doctors put her on ventilator as her condition further deteriorated. She was moved to the KEM hospital in a critical condition on July 18," the official said.
KEM hospital's medical officials elaborated: "The x-ray report showed that she had developed acute respiratory distress syndrome. We suspected swine flu and sent the throat swab for testing which showed the presence of H1N1 influenza virus."
The man from Magarpatta developed the symptoms from July 15. "He consulted a private doctor, who administered Tamiflu. But upon complain of weakness, he was admitted to the hospital on July 19. His throat swab tested positive for swine flu on Thursday."
