Epidemiological investigations have been conducted into the homes of people and the environment by the Ministry of Health Integrated Team, West Java Provincial Health Office, Department of Health and Department of Animal Husbandry Bekasi acquired risk factors, namely the possibility of contact with the environment in the case of ornamental birds. In case the home environment there are about 50-60 birds scattered about in four locations. Approximately ± 500 meters from the house there is a case that occasional cases of general market spending in the market.

With the increase of these cases, since 2005 until this news was published, the cumulative number of bird flu cases in Indonesia is 195 cases with 163 deaths.

JAKARTA - A 31-year Indonesian woman has died from avian influenza in outskirts of Jakarta, the health ministry said Monday.

The fatality brings the total death toll to 163 out of 165 cases since the virus first attacked the country in 2005, the ministry said in a statement.
The woman from East Bekasi died on Nov 11 before she was shifted to a bird flu-designed hospital.

The housewife first had the symptom on November1 by having fever and nausea that led her to be admitted to several health clinics and hospitals. She was diagnosed with typhoid at one point and the symptoms had progressively worsened before she died.

An epidemiological investigation showed that the woman had possibly got contact with birds or poultry.

Indonesia reported the last bird flu case in September on a 28- year man from West Java.

JAKARTA: An Indonesian woman living near the capital Jakarta has died of bird flu, the health ministry said, the latest death from H5N1 in the country hardest hit by the virus.

The 31-year-old housewife from Bekasi in West Java province is the 163rd fatality from the virus in Southeast Asia’s biggest nation, the ministry said in a statement seen Monday.

She came down with a fever last week and the bird flu virus was diagnosed but she died before medics could get her to a hospital for specialised treatment, it said.

JAKARTA, Indonesia -- A 31-year-old Indonesian woman has died from bird flu, bringing the death toll to 163 in the country hardest-hit by the deadly virus.

A statement Monday on the Health Ministry's website says the housewife from Bekasi Timur, a West Java district just east of the capital, Jakarta, died last week at a private hospital, five days after being treated for the H5N1 bird flu virus.

An investigation by the ministry found that the woman, who first developed symptoms of fever and nausea on Nov. 1, had possible contact with birds or poultry around her house.

A 31-year-old housewife in Bekasi, West Java, died of bird flu last week, bringing this year?s death toll caused by the H5N1 virus to three, the Health Ministry has announced.

According to the ministry, the woman have suffered from a fever since early November and died on Nov. 11, before she had received specialized treatment for bird flu. After examining the victim?s home and environment, Health Ministry officials said she likely contracted the H5N1 virus due to the 50 or 60 chickens in her neighborhood, including her own, home-kept chicken.

The country had witnessed 195 cases of H5N1, causing 163 fatalities, since 2005, the ministry said. ?If we think of the 55 fatalities suffered in 2005, this year?s total fatality rate is very low,? the ministry?s director general for disease control and environmental health, Tjandra Yoga Aditama, said recently.
