Sanglah Hospital treats H5N1 suspect

DENPASAR:
Sanglah General Hospital accepted a suspect H5N1 patient Wednesday.
The 65 year-old woman felt she could not breathe and was rushed to Klungkung regional hospital, 40 kilometers east of Denpasar.
The woman had a fever and shortness of breathe since Jan. 2 when some of her chickens suddenly died.
Klungkung Veterinary office confirmed that the dead chickens had been infected with the H5N1 virus.
Dr. Ken Wirasandi, Sanglah hospital's Secretary of Avian Flu Prevention Program, said the condition of the suspect patient was stabilizing.
"When a patient contracts the H5N1 virus, his or her health condition will deteriorate rapidly."
So far, two people have died of the H5N1 virus in Bali.
