Indonesia - Suspected 2009 H1N1 Patient Dies of Malaria

VIVAnews - Ahmad Solihin of Pekalongan, Central Java, who died allegedly as a result of swine flu fell ill, apparently with malaria tropica.

Kepala Bidang Penanggulangan Penyakit Menular, Dinas Kesehatan Kabupaten Batang, Dokter Hidayat mengatakan, bahwa semua pasien yang bekerja dari Kepulauan Batam sudah diperiksa.​

Head of Penanggulangan disease, District Health Office Trunk, Doctor Hidayat, said that all the patient work of Batam Islands have been checked.

"Hasil pemeriksaan darah, murni penyakit malaria yang disebabkan oleh nyamuk, bukan virus babi," kata dokter Hidayat melalui telepon selulernya.​

"Results of blood examination, pure disease malaria caused by mosquitoes, not the virus of swine," said Hidayat doctor over the phone selulernya.

Sebelumnya, Ahmad Solihin, warga Pekalongan, Jawa Tengah diketahui tewas diduga terinfeksi wabah flu babi.​

Previously, Ahmad Solihin, of Pekalongan, Central Java, known killed suspected outbreaks of bird flu infected pigs.

Korban tewas setelah sebelumnya bekerja selama 20 hari di Kepulauan Batam.​

The victim died after working for 20 days in Batam Island.

~ Malaria is very simple to diagnose with a microscope. Why was this patient ever even listed as a possible H1N1 infection in Indonesia to begin with?

Surely they would've ruled out Malaria from the start, being in a Malaria prone country.

So why the delay in a diagnosis of a disease they must see on a routine basis? I would think the doctors would've ruled out Malaria before thinking it was influenza.

I'm not surprised. I doubt H1N1 will ever make it into Indonesia... (as a diagnosis.)

Gee whiz. If H1N1 doesn't make it into Indonesia as a diagnosis, Health Minister Supari won't be able to put a price tag on the intellectual property their virus represents. I'm betting H1N1 does make it into Indonesia as a diagnosis if only for that purpose. One or two cases are enough perhaps.
