مصدر مسؤول في الشركة العامة للبيطرة التابعة للوزارة أوضح بتصريح خاص لـ "الصباح" أن شبكة الحراس الوبائيين البالغ عدد عناصرها خمسة آلاف و125 شخصا يغطون جميع المناطق في البلاد والذين باشروا أعمالهم بداية عام 2006، نجحوا في حماية البلاد من أية اصابة محتملة بمرض أنفلونزا الطيور من خلال احاطة أية بؤرة مرضية والتعامل معها على الفور من قبل ملاكات البيطرة العاملة في المستوصفات والمستشفيات المنتشرة بالمحافظات كافة، عادا أن عدم ظهور أية اصابة خلال الاعوام الثلاثة الماضية يقدم مؤشرا واضحا عن نجاح النظام المذكور في التصدي للمرض، منوها بأن الوزارة مستمرة باجراءاتها الوقائية من خلال المتابعة المستمرة لاية أصابة قد تظهر في الدول المجاورة من خلال الاتصالات مع منظمة الأوبئة العالمية التي تعتمد قائمة بالدول المحظور الاستيراد منها حال ظهور الاصابات فيها وتوثيقها ضمن مختبرات المنظمة المعتمدة في مصر وايطاليا، ليتم الايعاز بعدها الى المحاجر البيطرية في المنافذ الحدودية كافة بعدم إدخال أية شحنة من الدواجن الحية منها أو المجمدة.يشار الى ان آخر اصابة مسجلة ومعتمدة بالمرض كانت عام 2005 في اقليم كردستان العراق بمنطقة سهل رانية، فيما لم تثبت أي من الاصابات التي أعلن عنها فيما بعد في بغداد وميسان.
