Cases of measles in Europe have reached a record high according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), with Ireland seeing a massive increase in diagnoses since last year

So far this year, 76 cases of measles have been detected, according to the latest available statistics from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC). This compares to just one confirmed case during the same period last year.

During the entirety of 2017 there were 25 cases, with most cases coming near the end of the year as part of the current outbreak...

'Poor vaccine uptake' linked to Dublin measles outbreak

The Health Service Executive has said it is dealing with an outbreak of measles in Dublin's north inner city.

Since July, 13 cases of the infectious disease have been reported, with both adults and children affected.

The Department of Public Health said transmission of the disease occurred in hospitals in Dublin and in households with what it described as "poor vaccine uptake"...

The number of measles cases has risen sharply in recent weeks to 89 for the year to August 21st, according to the latest report from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC).

For the first 17 weeks of the year there were usually about three cases a week, with occasional increases to between six and eight. However, since the end of July about seven cases a week have been reported to the HPSC, with 11 notified in the week ending August 14th...

Measles outbreak in NUI Galway

The Department of Public Health has been notified of two confirmed cases of measles in students at NUI Galway.

The HSE has advised that measles is highly contagious and can cause serious complications particularly for children. Any student who has not had two doses of MMR vaccine should be vaccinated as soon as possible; students should establish with their families if they are fully vaccinated and protected...

Measles outbreak in Dublin sparks health warning as number of cases rises to 13

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is dealing with a measles outbreak in Dublin?s North Inner City, which has seen 13 cases in both children and adults since July this year.

The organisation said the transmission of the disease has occurred in hospitals and homes in Dublin due to ?poor vaccine uptake,? and has urged the public to vaccinate themselves against the virus....

THE NUMBER OF reported measles cases in Ireland more than trebled this year.

There were 85 reported cases as of 17 December, up from just 25 for the whole of 2017.

The majority of these cases ? 73 ? were confirmed, while 12 were deemed to be probable or possible cases. The last confirmed case was in October.

Seven in 10 of the confirmed cases (51; 69%) involved people who were not vaccinated.

When only taking into consideration confirmed cases among people aged 12 months and older (all of whom are eligible for vaccination as part of the national programme) there were 64 cases, of whom 43 individuals were not vaccinated (67%)...
