The HSE Public Health team are currently carrying out public health actions following a confirmed case of measles in the Dublin and Midlands region.

As part of the work, they have issued a public health alert (as follows):

We wish to advise that members of the public may have been exposed to measles while:

• travelling on Bus Éireann Route 115 (Dublin-Mullingar/ Mullingar-Dublin) between Tuesday 30 January and Monday 5 February

• in a restaurant in Mullingar Business Park on Monday 29 January, between 2pm and 4.30pm...​

A second case of measles has been confirmed in Ireland, with the patient being based in the West.

The HSE Health Protection Surveillance Centre was notified of the case on Wednesday.

The first case was reported last month when a man from Westmeath died from the disease. It is understood he caught the disease in Birmingham.

The HSE said that public health teams, along with the HSE Measles National Incident Management Team (IMT), are taking all necessary public health actions in relation to the case.​..

The exact period covers 9 on Sunday night last and 5 on Monday evening

The alert follows the HSE being notified on Wednesday of a second case of confirmed measles in Ireland, based in the West.

The HSE says if you were born in Ireland before 1978, or had the measles, or received two MMR vaccines, you are probably immune.​..

Measles: Third case in Irish Republic after Abu Dhabi to Dublin flight

Health officials on both sides of the Irish border have issued an appeal after a case of measles was confirmed on a flight from Abu Dhabi to Dublin.

The Etihad Airways plane arrived at 06:30 GMT on Saturday.

It is the third case of measles to be confirmed in the Republic this year.

The Public Health Agency (PHA) said anyone from Northern Ireland who was on the flight and is at higher risk of severe illness from the disease should contact them.

Those who are at greatest risk are those who were on Etihad Airways flight EY045 and are:

Children under 12 months old
Pregnant women

Another measles case has been confirmed, bringing the total to six this year, as European danger zones for the virus are revealed in advance of Easter getaways by Irish families.

The sixth case – which was notified on Wednesday – is expected to be followed by more as the highly contagious infection spreads due to lower levels of vaccination.

Details of the latest case are unknown but, already, two people with measles have been at the centre of an alert after they were passengers on flights to Dublin.

There are now nine confirmed cases of measles in Ireland, with public health doctors treating one outbreak where the measles infection was shared.

There are also 10 cases under investigation as probable or possible, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) has said.

“Probable and possible cases of measles have not been laboratory confirmed,” the HPSC added.

It also indicated the slow spread of the disease around the country, with investigations of these potential cases taking place in various regions.

There are now four probable cases in the HSE region covering Dublin and the North East.

A further four cases are under investigation in the Dublin and South East region.

The Dublin and Midlands region has one case under review, as does the South West.

There are no cases under investigation in the Midwest or West/North-West regions.

This comes as the HSE opens walk-in clinics around the country offering the MMR vaccine as a catch-up programme. This is open for children and adults who may have missed out on the routine schedule of this vaccine....​

There are now 10 confirmed cases of measles in Ireland and four of those are linked to the same outbreak, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre said.

A further 20 cases are under investigation, up from just 10 earlier this week, health officials have said.

Public health doctors have called on anyone who missed out on the MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, to attend free clinics running this week.

The HSE has issued an urgent public health alert warning families they may have been exposed to a case of measles in an indoor children’s play centre near Castleknock in Dublin.

A person with a confirmed case of measles attended Ship Shape Kids Play, at Junction 6 Castleknock, on the afternoon of April 4th, the HSE said.

Anyone who was at the centre on that afternoon is advised to be aware of the signs and symptoms of measles, and check for them for 21 days from the date of possible exposure...​

THREE MORE MEASLES cases have been confirmed in Ireland, bringing the total number of cases so far this year to 16.

In addition to the 16 confirmed cases, there are a further 16 cases currently under investigation for measles, according to the latest figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC).

The HPSC data also shows that there have been two measles outbreaks.

Both outbreaks were in private homes, with four confirmed cases in one outbreak and three confirmed cases in the second outbreak.

There have been 20 recorded cases of the measles in Ireland so far this year, with 13 more under investigation.

According to the latest figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC), there have been three outbreaks of the illness. An outbreak is an instance where two or more confirmed cases are related.

The three outbreaks occurred in private houses, one involved four cases, one involved three cases, and the last included two cases.

According to the HPSC, in addition to the confirmed cases above, there are 13 cases currently under investigation.

These include probable and possible cases of measles which have not been laboratory confirmed. Cases must be laboratory confirmed to be counted.

The majority of confirmed cases are in the 25-34 year age bracket, while one case involves a 45-54 year old. The other cases range in young people aged 1 to 19 years...​

The Health Service Executive has issued a public health alert informing individuals who attended the emergency department in the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise on 26, 28 and 29 April to be aware of possible contact with measles.

The HSE is advising anyone who attended the department between 1pm and 6pm on 26 April or between 2:40pm on 28 April to 6pm the following day that they may have been exposed to the virus...

Measles alert for passengers who were on flight to Dublin from Turkey

An alert has been issued to passengers who were travelling on a flight to Dublin after a person on board was subsequently found to have measles.

The warning is for people who were on flight TK1977 from Istanbul to Dublin on May 6, the Monday of the May bank holiday.

The letter from the HSE was sent to passengers, telling them they had been in contact with a person who had been diagnosed with measles, which is very ­infectious.

It is the third time this year an alert has had to be issued to passengers on a flight to Ireland due to an infected person on the plane leaving them at risk of catching the virus....

...A second alert was also issued to patients who attended Portlaoise Hospital emergency department between 1pm and 6pm on Friday, April 26, or between 2.40pm on Sunday, April 28 and 6pm the following day. They may have been in contact with another patient who was diagnosed with measles.

Specific at-risk patients may be contacted.

It comes as figures show that 26 cases of measles have been confirmed so far this year....​

People who may have been exposed received letters from the HSE saying: “You/your child has been identified as having had contact with an individual with suspect measles during a recent visit to either Cork University Hospital or SouthDoc Kinsale Road on Sunday, 19th May 2024.”

They were warned to be on the lookout for symptoms for 21 days following the exposure, but one infected person can spread it to 15 others in an unvaccinated population, so that additional people may have been infected since....​
