Health officials warn one county at risk of dangerous outbreak of measles as case confirmed
The confirmation in Limerick makes it the first case of measles in the country since 2020. Back in 2018, an outbreak led to a total of 40 cases and people have been warned to look out for symptoms

Health officials have warned of a measles outbreak across Limerick due to low numbers of vaccine uptake in the county.

The uptake rate for the jab in Limerick City and County is 82.6%, falling short of the 95% needed to curb the spread.

“We are concerned about the uptake of the MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine in the Mid-West which has dropped since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,” a statement released by the Department of Public Health Mid West read..
