About 107,000 turkeys were found to be infected with avian influenza in an outbreak discovered at a farm in Aviel, located northeast of Caesarea, the latest one in the continuing spread of the virus around northern Israel.
This is the fifth outbreak reported since just the beginning of this week. In total, about 232,000 birds have been found to be infected with the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5N1) virus since Sunday.
"The current wave of bird flu incidents has been with us for about three weeks. Throughout this period, ministry workers continue to work night and day to eradicate the spread of the virus, and continue to protect our health and the health of the animals around us," said Agriculture Minister Oded Forer. "The workers are available and act immediately while minimizing the suffering of animals."...

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has located a poultry farm at Moshav Aviel, in the Alona District Council, containing poultry infected with bird flu. About 107,000 turkeys raised for fattening, infected with the virus have been located on the farm. The Veterinary Services at the Ministry of Agriculture are operating in an emergency format, and are continuing active monitoring in the area and isolating the virus outbreak hotspots in accordance with the procedure.
In view of the continued spread of the disease, the Ministry of Agriculture is honing its guidelines to the public: Avoid contact with poultry and wild birds. If you have encountered a sick bird or a wild bird carcass, or have a question on the subject, contact the Ministry of Agriculture hotline at *6016, which is operational 24 / 7.
As in previous cases this year, also in this case, this is a strain of bird flu that may infect humans at a low level of risk, provided precautions have been taken as clarified above and that treatment of infected poultry is carried out by professionals and with appropriate protection. The Ministry of Agriculture once again reminds the public to be meticulous about consuming chicken and egg products only after cooking, as the high heat of cooking, baking or frying destroys all bacteria and viruses in poultry. The Ministry notes that this recommendation is valid in times of routine, and now even more so under the current circumstances.
Guidelines for poultry and bird breeders in all parts of the country: The birds should be kept in covered and meshed cages in such a way that they cannot come into contact with wild birds or other animals; entry to the cage should be reduced to the minimum required for proper poultry care; Do not enter the cages with the shoes that you wear outside the coop; Access to non-directly owned farms and living areas should be completely avoided; Any symptoms of avian morbidity or mortality should be reported immediately to the attending veterinarian, to the municipal hotline or to the official veterinarian and, in any case, the sick poultry should not be treated nor their carcasses disposed of in an unregulated manner.

This outbreak hotspot is added to the four hotspots from the beginning of the week at Ram-On (detected yesterday as being infected), at Nahalal (Monday, January 3, 2022), at Gadish and at Neot Golan (Sunday, January 2, 2022), and three other active outbreak hotspots from the past few days in the villages of Givat Yoav, Dvorah and Barak. At these three hotspots, treatment is already in advanced stages and is nearing completion. In parallel, the Ministry of Agriculture is continuing its treatment at the two most complex outbreak hotspots, at Moshav Margaliot and at the Hula Lake Reserve. At the other hotspots, including Ma’ayan Zvi, Kfar Baruch, Ein Tzurim, Avigdor and Ein Hahoresh, the Ministry of Agriculture has concluded the treatment.

Israel on Monday detected an outbreak of pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in around 18,700 chickens, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported in a statement.
The virus was detected at a cooperative farm in the town of Binyamina-Giv'at Ada, near the coastal town of Hadera, just three days after the ministry announced that the peak of the epidemic in Israel was "probably pass".
