Italian schools closed due to swine flu

ROME: Italy's health ministry ordered the immediate closure Friday of two schools in Rome with pupils who contracted the swine flu virus while on recent trips to the United States.
"The deputy minister of health, Ferrucio Fazio, has decided, out of precaution and so as to limit as much as possible the spread of the new A(H1N1) flu virus, to close immediately two schools in Rome where cases of flu were confirmed Thursday involving four pupils who returned on May 19 from a study trip to New York," a statement said.
Thursday's cases brought to 14 the number of confirmed infections in Italy. The schools, the first to be closed in the country because of swine flu, will remain shut for a week, according to Italy's ANSA news agency.
