Zingaretti, who is also president of the Lazio region, made the announcement in a Facebook video.

“So, it’s arrived, I also have coronavirus,” he said. “I am fine, and therefore I am in quarantine at home. From here, I’ll continue to do what I can do. My family are also following the protocols, and ASL [the local health authority] is contacting people who have worked closely [with me] in recent days to carry out checks. I have always said ‘don’t panic’ and that we will fight this.”

Italy set to quarantine whole of Lombardy due to coronavirus
Government’s draft decree would impose fines on anyone caught entering or leaving northern region
Lorenzo Tondo in Palermo
Sat 7 Mar 2020 20.57 GMT

The Italian government is set to place the region of Lombardy, in the north of the country, in lockdown as it battles to contain the spread of the coronavirus. A draft decree would extend the quarantined areas, so-called “red-zones”, telling people not to enter or leave the region.

The country is grappling to contain Europe’s worst outbreak of Covid-19, which has claimed 233 lives and infected a total of 5,883 people.

Italian authorities announced that a new decree containing draconian measures would be approved later on Saturday. The decree will include imposing fines on anyone caught entering or leaving the region of Lombardy, the worst-affected region, until 3 April. People will be allowed in and out only on the most serious grounds...

Covid-19, the recommendations for older people

C_17_notizie_4172_0_immagine.jpg

"The analyzes we are conducting show that the deceased patients are mainly elderly, on average 81 years, 80 percent have more than two pathologies, 60 percent have more than three, only 2 percent have no pathology ". This was stated by the President of the Higher Institute of Health Silvio Brusaferro, commenting on the new epidemiological data presented in the press conference to the Civil Protection on 7 March. To date, in fact, 16% of the deceased in our country are between 60-69 years old, 30% between 70-79 years, 42% between 80-89 and 6% over 90 years of age.

"The most frequent symptomatology at the onset of Covid-19 disease is the association of fever and dyspnoea, that is, difficulty in breathing, - added Brusaferro - and it is very important that in relation to this particular fragility of the Italian population, older people take protective behavior.

Those with fever and breathing difficulties call your family doctor or 112/118 immediately on the phone in case of severe breathing difficulties, without going to the emergency room or waiting rooms of medical offices where they can have close contacts with other people.

Instead, all older people are recommended to:
  • avoid crowded places
  • stay at home as much as possible
  • limit movement to the bare minimum and avoid close contacts ".

Half Veneto closed, Zaia a Conte: ?For our 3 provinces, irrational measures, I ask for crisis management powers?

Veneto is opposed to the creation of the three isolation zones in the region envisaged by the Government's Dpcm (READ). In the counter-submissions sent to the Government, the technical scientific committee supporting the Crisis Unit calls for 'the removal of the 3 provinces of Padua, Treviso and Venice from the decree'. In the face of circumscribed clusters, 'and which do not affect the general population in a widespread manner, it is not understood - it is written in the counterclaims - the rationale for a measure that appears scientifically disproportionate to the epidemiological trend'.

Coronavirus: protests in prisons to stop 'on sight' talks
In Salerno, then Modena, Naples and Frosinone, but also Vercelli, Alessandria, Foggia
ANSA BOLOGNA editorial staff
09 March 202012: 09

Salerno, then Modena, Naples and Frosinone, but also Vercelli, Alessandria, Foggia. The long wave of the coronavirus arrives in Italian prisons and turns into protest, when not in open revolt.

In Modena the prisoners, protesting for the prevention measures for Covid-19, had barricaded themselves in the institute of the Emilian city. And a riot breaks out in the prison of Foggia: some prisoners manage to escape by being blocked shortly after outside the penitentiary institution by the police, they have torn a gate of the 'block house', the area that separates them from the street, many they climb the gates of the prison perimeter. On the spot police, carabinieri and army soldiers.

Also addressed to the prison of San Vittore and some prisoners climbed on the roof of the district house. Police cars on the spot.

Revolt in the prison of Foggia where some prisoners are managing to escape by being blocked shortly after outside the penitentiary by the police. As far as we know, the detainees have torn a gate of the 'block house', the area that separates them from the street. Many inmates are climbing the gates of the prison perimeter. On the spot police, carabinieri and army soldiers.

In the night, the prisoners who died in the prison in Modena: it is learned from sources of the prison administration, according to which the state has not shown any sign of injury on the bodies. Two deaths, in fact, are attributable to the use of drugs, while the third inmate was found in a cyanotic state, the causes of which are known.

The three deaths would not be directly attributable to the uprising in the prison, the sources specify, although the investigations have just begun and are still ongoing. Also as regards the causes of the deaths, the checks are preliminary and would have shown that one of the three died of abuse of opioid substances, the other of benzodiazepines, while the third was found cyanotic, but the reason is not known of this state.

And the detainees of the Pavia prison have returned to the cells: the protest, born on the wave of the stop to the 'on sight' talks for the coronavirus, concerns complaints on "issues concerning prison treatment". It will be the prosecutor's investigation to shed light on the dynamics of the riot.

The prefect also arrived on the scene, together with the police who lined up in front of the structure from which smoke was seen coming out, probably due to a mattress fire. Then, late in the evening, news of the death of the first detainee detained. According to SAP, the prison police union, the prisoners "ask for measures against the risk of infection", explains the secretary Aldo Di Giacomo.

The suspension of the talks, foreseen by the anti-coronavirus measures, is at the basis of the protest also in the Neapolitan prison of Poggioreale, where some prisoners would have climbed the walls of the so-called 'walk', in the internal area of the penitentiary. At the same time, outside the prison, there was the protest of the relatives of the prisoners, also for the same reason. Indult, amnesty or house arrest what they asked for their imprisoned family members, also blocking the passage of trams. The protest returned in the late afternoon. The measures on the talks envisaged by the anti-coronavirus dpcm (telephone or video modalities must be used) were the spark that also made the detainees of Frosinone raise: a hundred barricaded themselves inside the second section, from which it was seen to come smoke.

The regional guarantor Stefano Anastasia rushed to the scene: "For the moment - he reported in the late afternoon - we are waiting. We do not want to do any forceful action in order not to create tension. We are in negotiation". In Frosinone, however, there were no episodes of violence against staff: "The situation from this point of view - adds the guarantor - is relatively peaceful". "The new law decree - the comment of Patrizio Gonnella, president of Antigone, the association for the rights of prisoners - contains the opening to measures such as increasing the duration of the telephone calls and the incentive to adopt alternative and detention measures We therefore appeal to the directors of prisons and surveillance magistrates. "
"The Coronavirus emergency must not be the excuse to open the doors of the district houses - the leader of the League Matteo Salvini reacts - Solidarity with the prison police and all the police: will Bonafede find time to take care of them too? ". Solidarity with agents also from the group leader FI to the Camera Maria Stella Gelmini.

And there is fear that the protest will widen again: "The tam tam - according to the leader of the National Association of Prison Police Officers and Officers Daniela Caputo - will soon create an emulation effect". The manager proposes the iron fist: "the army around all the walls, severe punishment of those who are fomenting the riots, immediate prohibition of any access to exponents or associations that because of their historical campaigns of protection and promotion of the rights of detainees can see their voice exploited by violent and violent people ".

Coronavirus: 7,985 infected (+1,598 compared to yesterday), 463 deaths (+97) and 724 recovered (+102)

The head of civil protection, Angelo Borrelli, starts from the healed, in his daily point on the coronavirus emergency in Italy: there are 724, 102 more than yesterday. Then the count of the dead: there are 463, 97 more than yesterday. With the division by age group: 1% from 50 to 59 years; 10% from 60 to 69; 31% from 70 to 79; 44% from 80 to 89; 14% over ninety. 'From tomorrow we will distribute 100 thousand masks in penitentiary institutions, where 80 pre-triage tents have been installed' for coronavirus screening.

Shortly before, the Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomies Francesco Boccia, present at the press conference, announced the closure of the ski resorts. From tomorrow. The minister stressed that there is full agreement, on this decision, by all the presidents of the Regions and autonomous provinces, as well as Anci and Upi, who have formed a permanent table that meets every day - through video links - at the headquarters of the Civil Protection Department. Boccia also stigmatized the speculation made by some ski resort managers, citing in particular the Abetone area. The government is working on a 'progressive homogenization of the rules throughout the national territory', continued Boccia, specifying that in addition to the rules, we are also working with the regions for homogeneous 'prescriptions and disciplines' throughout the national territory, an operation that will be also made through political confrontation.

As for ICU patients, Borrelli specified, there are 733, 83 more than yesterday. Of these 440 are in Lombardy, which had an increase in 41 cases in one day. 'The average age of ICU patients, hospitalized in critical conditions, is very high in Italy', observed the head of the infectious diseases department of the ISS, Giannni Rezza.

Coronavirus, Italy becomes a 'protected area': travel prohibited if not for proven needs. Conte: 'There is no more time'

ROME - 'All of Italy will be a protected area'. No more red, green or yellow area. All movements are prohibited except for proven needs, throughout Italy as up to now in Lombardy and in the 14 provinces. This was announced by Prime Minister Conte at a press conference at Palazzo Chigi, confirming what was announced by the Minister for Relations with the Regions, Francesco Boccia, speaking of 'progressive homogenization of the rules throughout the national territory'.
chronicle
Coronavirus in Italy, the latest news

The premier comes to the press room alone for what is undoubtedly the most dramatic announcement of his government experience: 'We have adopted a new decision based on an assumption: there is no time', he says. 'The numbers tell us that we are having an important growth of the infections, of the people hospitalized in intensive and sub-intensive care and alas also of the deceased people. Our habits therefore must be changed. They must be changed now. I decided to take even more stringent measures immediately, stronger. ' The measure is the one expected and now considered inevitable: 'I am about to sign a measure that we can summarize as 'I stay at home'. There will no longer be a red area on the peninsula. Italy will be a protected area', he adds.

'Movements prohibited except for proven needs'
As already today in Lombardy and in the 14 northern provinces, the movement of people is prohibited if not for proven health, needs or work needs. 'I am fully aware of the seriousness and responsibility,' explains Conte. 'We can't afford to let our guard down. It's time for responsibility and we all have it.
You citizens all with me. The right decision today is to stay home. Our future is in our hands, 'he adds.

'For transport, a limitation of public transport is not on the agenda, to guarantee the continuity of the production system and allow people to go to work', explains the premier. It will be possible to 'self-certify' to justify the movements, 'but if there was an untruthful self-certification there would be a crime', he specifies.

The new measures, which will be in the Official Journal tonight and will become operational from tomorrow morning, also concern schools and sporting events: throughout Italy the institutes will remain closed until April 3. Sporting events will not continue.

THE AUNTY'S APPEAL: COMPLY WITH THE RULES

'I want to appeal to citizens, and say that the real cure for Coronavirus is us in enforcing the rules: the less the virus runs, the less we collapse the hospitals and guarantee more quality of care for the sick'. This was underlined by the President of Veneto, Luca Zaia, speaking in Marghera this morning. 'The rules are the same - Zaia continued - beyond the decrees and rules: when one has a doubt, one must not go to crowded areas and gatherings, one must not have close contact with citizens; we institutions too must understand that form is substance, 'he concluded, stressing that the meeting with the press was held with journalists kept four meters away.
