Mortality trend for influenza A/H1N1v

The surveillance system of the deaths describes the epidemiology of the mortality for influenza A/H1N1v virus, also in terms of possible risk factors and for changes in the pattern during the course of the epidemic

  • last week (22-28 February 2010) no deaths due to influenza A/H1N1v have been reported. In total, since the beginning of the epidemic, 235 deaths have been recorded. Of these, 42% were women
  • the age groups most affected: individuals between 15 and 44 years (33% of deaths) and between 45 and 64 years (33%)
  • the region most affected is Campania with 22% of all deaths. The other regions are: Puglia with 15%, the Piedmont with 10%, the Sicily with 9%, Calabria and Lazio, with 6% of deaths each. Two regions (Valle d'Aosta and Sardinia) have not reported any deaths.
  • 81% of deaths occurred in people who had at least one risk condition.

The data refer to the date of death, not the date of the reporting by the region or laboratory confirmation of cases. Consequently, the results reported each week can be changed, because updates can occur in the registration of online data for cases reported in recent weeks.
