An outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza emerged on Thursday 27 October in a farm of about 49 thousand heads of laying hens in the municipal area of Volpago del Montello. The outbreak is part of a high-risk context due to the presence of the virus in wild birds (16 isolations of the virus in the regions of northern Italy) and in poultry farms (7 outbreaks involving, in addition to Treviso, the provinces of Verona, Ferrara, Bologna, Cremona and Pavia). After the sampling performed by the Venice Zooprophylactic Institute, which gave a positive result yesterday evening for highly pathogenic avian flu, the Crisis Unit of the Veneto Region met, which was attended by Ulss 2 and the IZS. The Ulss 2 Prevention Department has already ordered the urgent culling of the animals. The issue of a determination is also underway, with which the rules to be kept in the protection zone (within the radius of 3 km from the outbreak) and in the surveillance zone (within the radius of 10 km) will be imposed.
Second outbreak of avian flu in a few days in the Marca. After the maxi cluster that emerged on 29 October in Volpago del Montello, 25 new cases of avian were found on Monday 31 October in a rural farm in Orsago. All specimens will be killed and the protection zone (within the radius of 3 kilometers from the outbreak) and the surveillance zone (within the radius of 10 kilometers) will be established.
