Amount has decreased 36 percent if it compared last year in same period which reached 3,434 cases. However, there is no number of dead people which is caused by Aedes aegypti mosquito.


In fact dengue fever spread in 10 Sub-district in detail; 435 cases in Durensawit Sub-district, 327 cases in Cakung Sub-district, 235 cases in Jatinegara Sub-district, 217 cases in Kramatjati Sub-district, 199 cases in Pulogadung 1Sub-district, 173 cases in Cipayung Sub-district, 172 cases in Matraman Sub-district, 146 cases in Makasar Sub-district, 146 cases in Pasarrebo Sub-district, and 145 cases in Ciracas Sub-district.


East Jakarta Health Sub-dept was continuing to study epidemiology (PE) to prove whether the person suffered from the disease or not. For a while, the result showed 1,173 cases positive dengue fever. While, 91 non-dengue fever cases and 711 cases did not known the address. The remaining 220 cases still carried out by officers of PE.

Intensive activities of mosquito eradication program (PSN) conducted by Jakarta government together with residents have led to encouraging results. It can be seen from the decline in the number of dengue fever cases in Jakarta from January until 17 May 2010.

Data from Jakarta Health Agency shows there were only 8,388 dengue fever cases recorded during the period, drastically down from 18,343 cases in the same period of last year. Jakarta also sees its Case Vitality rate (CVR) of dengue fever lower than the national CVR. The city?s CVR is 0.02 percent, while the national rate settles at 1 percent.

"We have seen a drastic decline, thanks to PSN on Fridays," said Head of Health Control Division of Jakarta Health Agency, Ida Bagus Nyoman Banjar, Wednesday (5/19).


During the period of January to 17 May 2010, the highest number of dengue cases occurred in March with 2,560 cases claiming three lives, followed with 2,254 cases in April with nine fatalities. Meanwhile, in January and February, the cases numbered 1,514 cases (no fatality) and 1,845 cases (2 fatalities) respectively. And from 1 May to 17 May, there were 215 cases with one death recorded. "So, throughout this year, 15 people of 8,388 dengue fever cases are dead," he stated.

Meanwhile, in six administration areas in Jakarta, the highest number of dengue cases is shown by East Jakarta with 2,262 cases, followed by South Jakarta 2,143 cases, North Jakarta 1,645 cases, West Jakarta 1,383 cases, Central Jakarta 954 cases, and Thousand Islands Regency with one case.
