1 dies, 46 fall sick in diarrhoea outbreak

Medininagar, May 28 (PTI) One person died of diarrhoea while 46 others fell ill at Sudra village in Palamu district of Jharkhand today.
Narayan Ram (32) succumbed after falling ill while the condition of 15 persons, now being treated in health centres, was stated to be serious, health department sources said.

Altogether 46 persons were afflicted with the water-borne enteric outbreak.

A five-member medical team headed by district civil surgeon Dr Gopal Srivastav rushed to the village and was camping at the area, the sources said.

4 villagers die of diarrhoea in West Singhbhum

In a shocking incident, at least four persons died and around 20 are undergoing medical treatment after they suffered, apparently from diarrhoea, in Gudri block of the West Singhbhum district, about 100km from Chaibasa headquarters.

According to information, Nani Lomga, 30, Asyani Lomga 12, Basiya Lomga, 45, and Sukvaro Gope, 52, died in the absence of timely medical help, said the local panchayat members. Nani and Asyani are from one family.

A 14-member team led by area medical officer was rushed to camp at the Kanskel village under Birkeal panchayat in Gudri to take steps to control the outspread.

The health authorities also said that the symptoms of the patients suggested that they were suffering from diarrhoea but final report is awaited.

Diarrhoea cases on rise in Steel City

JAMSHEDPUR: Even as the district health officials of the West Singhbhum district are trying to play down the diarrhoea outbreak in Gudri block, the toll is increasing.

According to the local panchayat members, seven people have died and several others have fallen ill in the last 48 hours in Kanskel village under Birkeal panchayat in Gudri, about 100 km from Chaibasa headquarters.

"To my knowledge not more than four people have died," said the civil surgeon. Contrast to the civil surgeon's claims three villagers identified as Jiling Lomga (35), Biren Lomga (52) and 10-year-old Illyas Lomga have lost their lives in the last 24 hours.

On Monday, it was reported that four people have died and dozens fell ill after consuming contaminated water from the local pond. The civil surgeon said sample of the contaminated water will be sent to the lab.

Diarrhoea takes epidemic form in Garhwa village

GARHWA: Diarrhoea has taken an epidemic form in Mirchayya village under Dhurki block of the district, about 45 km from here. Two persons- an elderly man and a minor girl, are reported to have died so far, while over a dozen people have taken ill.

Among those who died of diarrhoea included, Ganesh Bhuiyan (80) and Kushmi Kumari (4). Those who have been taken ill by the disease included, Sunita Devi, Rita Kumari, Mamta Kumari, Bachiya Devi, Sumitra Devi, Phool Kumari and others.

24 new cases of diarrhoea in Ranchi

RANCHI: Diarrhoea has started taking its toll in both rural and urban Jharkhand. On Friday, around two dozen new cases of diarrohea were reported in the capital. The patients were admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science, Sadar Hospital, Anjuman Islamia Hospital and private nursing homes. According to official figures, four deaths were reported, besides 897 cases of infections from different districts. Unconfirmed sources placed the death figure at seven, including one in the capital. Krishna Chandra Baraik of Simdega died at RIMS on Thursday while he was undergoing treatment. Official reports confirmed the death of three people in Sonua block of Chaibasa and a child in Chatra.

Jharkhand: 7 diarrhoea deaths in 7 days; Govt response nil

Sonua village (West Singhbhum): The Jharkhand government's tall claim of spending crores on rural health care doesn't mean anything for villagers in Sonua. The predominantly tribal village has seen seven diarrhoea deaths in as many days, but the only help these people have are anganwadi workers who are not trained to deal with emergencies.

Not a single doctor has visited the village in five years.
"There is no treatment available. It seems we will die here," said Somra, a patient.

But the state government claims to have spent Rs. 1,000 crore over the last five years, reinforcing rural health care, upgrading village health centres and buying ambulances.
