Ranchi, June 5 (PTI) Three undertrial prisoners lodged in the Birsa Munda Central Jail died today after they complained of dizziness and vomiting, jail sources said.

The three -- Manoj Singh (38), Manoj Kumar Singh (40) and Bacha Lal Yadav (42) -- had complained of dizziness and vomiting yesterday and were treated by the jail doctor, they said.

But today at around 9 am their condition suddenly deteriorated after which they were referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). But they died within 30 minutes, they said.

Ranchi, June 5: Three prisoners of Birsa Munda Central Jail today died in hospital, hours after they drank what primarily appears to be ?spurious? soft drink offered by a visitor.

Four others have been hospitalised with severe nausea, baring chinks in the armour of the touted high-security prison in the capital.

IG (prisons) Vijay Kumar Singh confirmed the deaths of murder accused Bachcha Lal Yadav (35), murder convict Manoj Kumar Singh (32) and a 36-year-old drug peddler who was a namesake of the latter. All three were residents of Ranchi district.

?They fell sick after consuming soft drink brought by someone yesterday. They were admitted to the jail hospital when they started vomiting. This morning, they were referred to RIMS, where they died during treatment,? he said, but refused to say whether the trio had been poisoned. He also could not confirm who the visitor was.

RANCHI: Three undertrial prisoners lodged in the Birsa Munda Central Jail here died on Sunday after they were allegedly poisoned.

Manoj Kumar Singh (40), Manoj Singh (38) and Bacha Lal Yadav (42) died after they were admitted to the emergency ward of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) here. All the three were in jail for more than six months.
