Shelter, Kane continue fight against TB outbreak

GENEVA ? There are now 23 patients in Kane County who have an active form of tuberculosis, officials say, along with 146 people identified with latent cases.

The Kane County Public Health Committee heard from several officials this week about the effects of the TB outbreak, which largely took place at the Hesed House homeless shelter in Aurora. Contagious patients have been moved to a separate motel in Kane County, with a proper air filtration system, that was chosen for its isolation...

GENEVA ? There have been no new outbreaks of tuberculosis in Kane County since last fall, according to county Health Department Director Paul Kuehnert.

On Tuesday, Kuehnert discussed the status of an ongoing tuberculosis outbreak in Kane County that began in 2007 with the Kane County Public Health Committee. He will be giving a full update on the outbreak at the committee?s April meeting...

Kane still cautious on Hesed House TB outbreak

AURORA ? The tuberculoses outbreak that has troubled Hesed House in Aurora for the last three years is looking better, but far from over.

Since 2009, there have been 33 cases of tuberculoses at the Hesed House homeless shelter. There has been only one suspect case reported so far in 2012, but that doesn?t necessarily mean it will turn out to be an active case of TB, according to Hesed House Executive Director Ryan Dowd...

Aurora library taking precautions against TB spreading

Aurora Public Library employees are taking precautions this week after two regular patrons of the Main Library, 1 E. Benton St., tested positive for tuberculosis.

Officials from the Kane County Health Department visited the library Monday and performed voluntary tests on many of the library?s 167 employees. The Main Library has 75 employees, but library spokeswoman Amy Roth said the testing was open to all employees.

Christopher Hoff, assistant director at the Kane County Health Department, said the department recently became aware of two new cases of active tuberculosis that are linked to the county?s ongoing outbreak. To date, Hoff said, 42 cases have been confirmed in the Aurora area over the past three years and a majority have been linked to Hesed House, an overnight homeless shelter in Aurora...
