COVINGTON, Ky. ?Northern Kentucky is dealing with an outbreak of whooping cough that is making dozens of kids in local schools sick.
More than 30 schools have reported kids sick with the illness, also referred to as pertussis, and seven students have confirmed cases at one school alone: Prince of Peace School in Covington.
This year already, 78 cases have been reported in Boone, Campbell, Grant and Kenton counties. On average, the region sees 25 cases a year...

EDGEWOOD, Ky. -- "Record levels" of whooping cough (pertussis) have afflicted Northern Kentucky residents in the past five months, surpassing previous outbreaks of 140 cases in 2010 and 109 cases in 2012.
The Northern Kentucky Health Department said 172 cases have been reported between Nov. 1, 2015, and March 16 in Boone, Campbell, Grant and Kenton counties, mostly among school-age children from 7 to 17 years old.
