Laos launches information exchange project on bird flu

December 10, 2008 2:44 pm by pna

HANOI, Dec. 10 - Lao authorities have officially launched a Japan-funded project to promote information exchange on avian flu between Laos, Thailand and Vietnam through an information and communication technology system.

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Application in Controlling Avian Influenza Outbreak Program is financed with grant assistance from the Japanese government through ASEAN Fund, which has earmarked 1 million USD for the project implementation in the three regional countries, Lao news agency (KPL) reported.

Under the program, an ICT system linking the Science and Technology Agency, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will be established in the near future to facilitate the cooperation of relevant officials.

An avian flu alert system by text message will also be established to better the cooperation and efforts by relevant organizations and officials in tackling the disease, said KPL. (PNA/VNA)
