The flu has already arrived, but vaccines are still on the way: when will deliveries begin in Latvia
25 Sept 2026According to the National Health Service (NHS), the first vaccines to arrive in the country will be intranasal vaccines intended for people in at-risk groups. Vaccines with a valency dosage of 60 mcg, intended for residents aged 60 and over, are expected to be received by October 16. Vaccines with a valency dosage of 15 mcg are expected to arrive by November 13. The NHS emphasizes that these deadlines are based on information provided by the vaccine supplier.
Why deliveries are delayed
The production of flu vaccines for the 2026/2027 season has been delayed across Europe. As the NHS explains, the reason is the late receipt of information about the serotypes of the flu virus that need to be used in the production of vaccines.

The first laboratory-confirmed cases of flu for the current season were registered in Latvia as early as September. In the 38th week of the year, three cases were laboratory confirmed. Additionally, a patient with complications caused by the flu has already been treated at the Latvian Infectology Center of the Riga East Clinical University Hospital. Infectologists note that this year the circulation of the virus began early, so the flu epidemic may start earlier than usual.
