Re: Maharashtra Flu reports April 1 2011 to date. 75 fatalities

Just as a point of clarification, Maharashtra MOH&FW has confirmed 71 fatalities in 2012 as of Sept 19th. We have one more from media reports. The other three totaled in the thread title are from 2011. The total number of confirmed cases is around 1,155 since the start of 2012.
From April 1 to Sep 19th, 353,249 cases were screened; 41,762 prescribed Tamiflu and 4,510 admitted to hospital.

Unfortunately, data prior to April 1 has disappeared from the govt. website leaving this thread as the only available record.

As H1N1 claims another life, docs say don?t ignore symptoms

Yet another swine flu death has been reported prompting doctors to urge people showing H1N1 symptoms to opt for immediate treatment.

On Thursday, a 55-year-old man from Man taluka in Satara died of H1N1. He had been ailing since September 15 and had shown symptoms of the disease like cough, cold and high fever.

He had initially got treatment at Satara civil hospital. A delay in administering Tamiflu is the likely reason for his condition deteriorating. He was admitted to Global Multispecialty Hospital at Kalewadi where he succumbed to the virus, Dr Milind Jawale, assistant medical officer, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation said.

Most of the patients who succumbed to the virus since April this year in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad are from outside Pune and Pimpri areas and had come to seek treatment at hospitals in these areas. The deaths reported in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad have now gone up to 24 (16 from PMC area and 8 from PCMC area) since April this year.

'Swine flu cases may be under-reported'
Payal Gwalani, TNN | Oct 11, 2012, 12.56AM IST

NAGPUR: A two-year old was taken to the doctor as he was suffering from fever and coughing continually. The doctor suspected the little one was suffering from swine flu and asked the parents to get him tested at a government authorized centre. The parents hesitated to go to the government hospital and said they would take a second opinion. Two days later, the child passed away with the doctor still telling them he was sure it had been suffering from swine flu.

A woman from a village in Katol consulted a doctor from the city for a fever that was not subsiding despite medications. Being weekend, she could not get screened before two days. So, the doctor gave her some antibiotics. Three days later, the fever had subsided. City doctors believe that the number of swine flu victims with the government may be less than the actual incidence of the disease.
